so not heard the second side of the LP.

I have now, and oh, the Clog Dance; I might have guessed there was something popular within this music, an old favourite of Radio 2 (FNIMN), ClassicFM and I expect Rob Cowan has fetched in out of his rucksack for Breakfast on R3

Excellent, and mostly unknown even to baroque anoraques.

I was listening to this earlier:

I had to leave some serious silence after that.

I'm not sure JSB would have approved of those parallel knives.

Oh I don't know. They might come in handy for killing those kittens.

 the Clog Dance;

Fond memories of being dressed as a chick, in yellow pyjamas with added ruffles of yellow crepe paper, dancing to The Clog Dance in a school performance when I was about 9! We had a wonderful teacher who introduced us to the music from La fille mal gardée and it's remained one of my favourite pieces of music - despite having to be a dancing chick!

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

One of the unquestionable greats of the Wagner discography, IMO.  And a live performance too, in what by all accounts was an extraordinary production.  Imagine what it must have been like to have been there ...

I love it. I've never seen the opera on stage, and I haven't taken the time to work out how the action matches the music. I think I almost prefer it like this...

Spinning here, largely prompted by discussions elsewhere on the boards:
