Inspired by the news today that Hyperion are releasing Charles Mackerras' SCO/ Philharmonia Beethoven symphony cycle from last year's Edinburgh Festival, what prospective new releases have got you reaching for your credit card(s)?!  Cheesy

Three for me:

Vivaldi's 'Atenaide' in Naive/Opus 111's continuing Vivaldi Edition. Released in France in September (no news on a UK release yet, but it's usually the following January for the annual opera release). Good cast - Sandrine Piau, Vivica Genaux, Nathalie Stutzmann, Guillemette Laurens, Paul Agnew.

Zinman's Mahler 3. If you've heard the first two releases in this cycle, you'll know why! Varying news on release dates: Amazon.uk have it listed for release next Monday, MDT and Crotchet the following week, HMV October! Not been released in the US or Germany yet, which may be an indication that HMV are correct on this one.

Bantock's Omar Khayyám - massive oratorio and supposedly his masterpiece, recorded by the BBC with Handley at the helm, to be released at the end of August. Toby Spence, Cathryn Wyn-Rogers and Roderick Williams are the soloists.

Now, my Dudamel arrived yesterday (from Caiman via Amazon Germany)! The Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra sound a remarkable group - I hadn't heard their first disc, but there are some good trumpet and horn solos. The reading, although not much faster than Abbado and Boulez, makes for an exhilarating ride, an especially fine second movement, very stürmisch. By comparison, the Adagietto felt a little too slow, although he gets some very hushed, fragile string sounds from the orchestra. I looked on the Proms website yesterday and their concert is sold out (whereas tickets for Abbado/Lucerne and Haitink/RCO are still available). BBC4 are televising it, so I shall be keen to watch (and hear) them in action.

Ockeghem Requiem - Ensemble Organum (reissue - to replace worn-out LP)
I don't blame you. That's one of my favourite recordings of anything.

Thanks for the review, IGI: glad to hear especially about the second movement. I'm waiting for the UK release: 13 August?

Am astonished to hear there are still tickets for the Abbado/Lucerne Prom, but might venture down for it if I can still get a ticket.

There are at least three fewer available up in the £10 area than there were when you posted. But I have the very great pleasure of reporting that Oliver Sudden will be in attendance.

I'm still waiting for Marc-Andre Hamelin's Concerto for solo piano on Hyperion and, on the same label, a possible 3rd CD of New Liszt Discoveries played by Leslie Howard (if there is going to be one)...

The really annoying thing is my wishlist at MDT is now so long that I cannot possibly clear it all unless I win the lottery!

My basket at Amazon is full of things I'm waiting to crop up on their marketplace at a good price!  Wink

Jonathan, have you heard Arnaldo Cohen in Liszt? This looks tempting:

IGI, I think it might be an idea to contribute decidedly negative reviews of items you want to get cheap via Amazon Marketplace. Good customer reviews tend to inflate the price, in my experience. Wink

Something along the lines of 'Norrington's Mahler? Simply awful!'?!! Or maybe I could just paste a few comments from the R3 messageboards to help?  Wink

At least the 'View Basket' feature shows price changes e.g. the Solti 'Falstaff' which Decca have reissued at mid-price has suddenly dropped £10 to £7.97! (Don't worry - it's been safely snapped up!) Marketplace dealers also try to undercut each other - each day, their prices can drop a few pence. I wonder if this is triggered by their item being placed in a basket?

Hi IGI,
I've got Arnaldo Cohen's CD on Naxos (I wrote the review of it for Amazon) and it is excellent!  I also have one of his other Liszt CDs on Carlton Classics (probably deleted now) but found that uninspiring.  I'll have a listen to the concerto CD bits available on Amazon and decide whether to get it later!

The classicstoday review of one of the Norrington Mahlers was on the Amazon.de website. I can only assume someone who couldn't read English put it there. Which considering who wrote it has a rather sweet symmetry about it.

I suppose these boards don't in themselves provide evidence that Bryn can read English... Wink

After salivating about the forthcoming Vivaldi, those nice folks at Naïve have emailed me a link to their dedicated site with plenty of audio clips plus 10 minutes of part of a documentary, so I thought I'd share it with you!  Smiley http://www.naive.fr/sites/editionvivaldi/index.html

Meanwhile: I told you there was this clarinettist in Köln getting rid of some instruments, didn't I?

My goodness they are truly beautiful things, Mr S. I'm just glad that sitting indoors on a beautiful day drooling over woodwind porn isn't yet a criminal offence.

Talking of itchy credit cards, I hope you will feel suitably contrite to hear that mine is £113.47 worse off this morning thanks to you and Ms Lenz Cry
