Just arrived today, the results of an 'Italian opera' itch, when I spotted that some Nuova Era sets are going for silly prices on Amazon: Don Pasquale (with Enzo Dara and Alessandro Corbelli), Ernani (Dessi, La Scola, Pertusi and Coni), I Capuleti e Montecchi (with Katia Ricciarelli and 'Dana' Montague) and an unknown (for me) - Donizetti's Alina (again with Daniela Dessi and Paolo Coni). £3.97 each (apart from Ernani @ £2.97). By adding the Davis Oedipus Rex recording several members were recommending the other week (also £3.97) I got free p&p as well. School may well be starting again tomorrow, but there's plenty here to keep me happy!  Smiley

My latest itchy credit card purchase was a new compact digital camera, which arrived in the mail today and carried with it the following warning pamphlet.  In addition to the fantastic drawing, I'm also particularly fond of bullet-point #4.

Oh that's lovely.

I'm wondering how one might interpret the drawing in the absence of any text?

A couple of discs to be released within the next month which will have me reaching for the credit card:

Boulez's Mahler 8 which will complete his DG cycle. I seem to recall those who heard the concert broadcast raving about it.

Danielle de Niese's Decca debut recording of Handel arias. Having seen her sing excerpts from Semele at the Lufthansa Baroque Festival and her concert performance in Ariodante at the Barbican in the spring, this should definitely be worth hearing.

Not at this price, thanks. It's not even available in SACD. I can wait until it drops very significantly in price.

I hadn't found it on the UK site, but that's ridiculously steep, Bryn. How about the German price?

I think DG/Universal have thrown in the towel on SACD, haven't they?

That's much more like it. By the time Caiman get round to offering it via Amazon France, I might just take the plunge. Wink

Mind you, Amazon France is already quoting a lower price than Amazon Germany.

Or from HMV Japan, it's under £11 and available now!

I've used them before and they deliver quickly (a week for Zinman Mahler 3) and you can track the package...

Have ordered the Boulez Mahler 8 from HMV Japan, where it's released today (as a European import!), at a cost of £8.73 and it's already been dispatched!  Cheesy

(eventually my conscience about asking ian to start up this period music performance thread and then not replying to it, along with a genuine desire to know some bloody thing about it; these things conspired and led to the other purchases below owing to the resulting want to get as much use out of the post and packaging charge as possible Smiley  ).

(that's the dvd)

That's two Bowen P.C.'s.  And yes, I know there's a new disk of these by Hyperion coming out some time soon.  But whatever, right?.

increp, I for one would be deeply fascinated in your thoughts on Kuhn (and Popper) when you've finished - any chance you might post a bit about those?
