Messiaen had the worst sense of colour co-ordination, surely? And an inability to control his lapels.

t-p, that's without doubt the most impressive display of academic rigour I've yet experienced in the as-yet-embryonic field of musical trouserology. Completely persuasive argumentation based on a thorough and unbiased examination of the source materials.

I take my hat off to you.

And cop this for a trouser line. It must surely reach the sternum.

Does it have an apple or something strategically placed  Huh

I very sincerely hope so. If not, for plain decency's sake, please someone demonstrate the wonderful powers of Photoshop! Wink

I'm not sure about this, John. It could well be that an apple corer was pressed into service prior to the strategic placement of the apple. I think we should tread warily.

I gave my original trouser message a corresponding tweak.

We can analyse each composer's attire and its relations to creases, wrinkles and connection with the owner's character.

Why is he wearing a fur hat? He is not on Alaska is he? However, I don't see any creases.
I have to say that Soviet industry was not as good as British in its so called Light sector (nor connected with military machine) what they produced for people. This material was more inclined to crease than Western made material and highly thought after. That belongs to another thread and is off topic here.

I think this is Messiaen and Xenakis. No creases in evidence here. However Messiaen trouses are not well ironed.

Surely one who confuses oneself with one's own logic is just being ILLOGICAL?

Messiaen's trousers look OK to me t-p - are you sure it's not Xenakis' trousers you mean? (Xenakis is on the left.)

All the same it seems Xenakis might have gone for the linen look, and there's not much chance of keeping creases out of that.

Here we have a very rare example of one composer actually adjusting the sartorial disposition of another!  Smiley

Tastes in ties have changed rather over the years, haven't they?

Not to mention glasses.

Do we? It seems to me that Xenakis is simply having difficult plugging in his ipod shuffle, and Messiaen is providing some assistance. What's wrong with that?

Point taken, assuming that you refer only to his mode (sorry!) of dress rather than in more general terms...

Best,
