Apologies to Thomas Ades for getting the accent on his "e" the wrong way round (or not there at all, as now). It should have been a grave, but I can't remember how to type it.

From the looks of that photo, he is far, far too hip to care.  Or should I say, to carè.

To be fair the name Adès in French does also have a grave on it. You do sort of need the accent on it or people are going to pronounce it, like, wrong...

In my search for a photo of Mauricio Kagel for the local composers thread I came across the following. I do believe it may well be of the man himself (there's one which certainly is on the right for comparison):

In which case it's over to Mr Grew for a full critique.

The fascinating thing about this thread is how influential it can be. We (who are blessed with extremely sensitive pseud-antennae) have already been put off several composers for life after seeing their poses above. (We do not intend to say which ones . . .)

A certain Romanian spectralist caught at a particular moment:

We heartily join the chorus of suppliants to Mr Grew: please, do be so kind as to further our understanding of composers' sartorial responsibilities with a few pithy observations. That is after all why we're here.

This is from that brief period in the 80s when Karlheinz was forced to work on Wall Street to earn a crust. Sadly, the photo does not extend as far as his sneakers.

I did not know how many composers look before this thread. Now I can not stop to look how they dress.
This is Elliot Carter in his younger days. He dressed well, but he is not dandy.
Dandy cathegory composer-dressers: Mahler, Liszt, Chopin. Xenakis is not a bad dresser.

This is well dressed composer, but I don't know his music. His name is W Davis according to Tony.

Whereas this chap dressed well and was indeed D'Indy.

Oh, he is really well dressed. I would say conservatively, but very well. I like him very much.
I should search French composers. Ravel is always well turned out and Debussy too. How about Satie?

Not bad at all. I like his spectacles. May be Morticiaa will consider them for herself. I would consider, but mine are still ok. My specs change colour when I get inside or out. They are very fancy. They make you near blind when you change your place suddenly. It is specially inconvinient inside shops as you don't really see people.

D,Indy should have my glasses. He has a glare in his.
I like Bax. He is a good dresser and no creases.

Who we did not look for yet?
