Slightly off topic: Napravnik's piano concerto is excellent!

It certainly is, Jonathan! Have you got the Evgeny Soifertis recording on Hyperion?

Very good. Just Bridge and Wieniawski to go, although I also had a different Tchaikovsky to Tony.

A noble effort! The Bridge was a bit obscure. I went for russe rather than Russian, hence the Tchaikovsky from Swan Lake rather than the Symphony No.2: Stravinsky – Scherzo ŕ la RusseBridge - Valse Russe, miniature for piano trio No.8 Lalo – Concerto russeWieniawski - Le carneval russeTchaikovsky - Danse russe from Swan LakeNápravník – Fantaisie russe (on the same Hyperion CD as the Concerto symphonique discussed earlier!) Night all.

I don't know of Taneyev's Piano Concerto at all. What's it like, Jonathan? I know a couple of the symphonies and whilst there's some attractive stuff there, it's a bit run-of-the-mill at times, especially when compared to Glazunov and Tchaikovsky. The Hyperion series of Romantic Piano Concertos contains some real surprises - the Rimsky-Korsakov/ Balakirev disc is lovely, as are the Litolff, Glazunov and Saint-Saëns. My favourite is the Lyapunov - what glorious melodies. I've recently ordered the Alnaes/Sinding disc and am tempted by the Scharwenka too.
A new puzzle. Connect these four...
Lumbye Dowland Krenek Elgar

Some kingly connection I suspect
Lumbye - King Carl XV's March of Honor
Dowland - The Most High and Mightie Christianus, the fourth King of Denmarke, his Galliard
Krenek - Karl V, op. 73 (opera)
Elgar- Imperial March (George V Coronation)

No correct answers and no kingly connection, but you're not a million miles away, John.
