That was tough, John W! I didn't recognize these, not being familiar with any of them at all. But here's another quartet:

Britten
Wagner
Bellini
R Strauss

Rings? Ring snatching?

Bellini - La Sonnambula - Elvino snatches his ring back from Amina's finger
Wagner - Das Rheingold - Wotan snatches the ring from Alberich

or contracts?
La Sonnambula - Elvino and Amina sign a marriage contract
Das Rheingold - the contract between Wotan and the giants

Hello, IGI.

RHEINGOLD and SONNAMBULA are correct, but the object can't be held in one's hands or worn.

Clue for the Strauss: four different brothers living with a woman, one of them being her husband.

Clue for the Britten: the title (not an opera) includes the name of a composer.

A fifth composer: Barber.

Strauss - Die Frau Ohne Schatten
Britten - Variations on a theme of Frank Bridge or The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, which is subtitled Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Purcell

Well done, IGI!

Putting Britten aside, look for an object in the finales of the three operas.

Bridges!
The rainbow bridge in Rheingold
Amina crosses the bridge across the milil-stream and nearly falls in in Sonnambula
Don't know the Frau ohne Schatten connection,

but they all lead to Frank BridgeCheesy

Yes! In FRAU, Barak and his wife meet on a bridge. Do you know this opera? I have the Bohm CD and Solti DVD.

No, I don't know 'Die Frau' at all, but now happily have Daphne, Die Liebe der Danae, Ariadne auf Naxos, Arabella and Capriccio in my collection to add to the Salome and Rosenkavalier which were there before!

Did you ever get hold of the Fleming Daphne?

It's a super opera, don't miss it. Being too busy since mid-February, I completely forgot about not only the Fleming DAPHNE but also many other items in my Amazon basket. I'm currently in the process of debiting my credit-card account astronomically, having added this morning a very pricey Italian MEISTERSINGER (with TADDEI as Sachs and Christoff as Pogner) on the Myto label to my basket! My UK courier has just notified me by email that there's a little parcel in my mailbox (this should a DON CARLO sent by.... Wink).

I really enjoyed the Fleming recording and think it's a super opera - I seem to relate best to the mythological ones, having taken to 'Danae' strongly as well.

Managed to borrow a DVD of Capriccio which helped, but I think a few listenings/ viewings are needed to fully 'get it'.

Back to the connections. Try these four:

Haydn
Bizet
Rimsky-Korsakov

Two different connections, but I think both are wrong:

Ivan the Terrible (Bizet & R-K)

Fishermen/women (Bizet and Haydn)

If I may suggest linked titles in English:

Haydn - Children's Symphony (though I don't think it is listed as one of his 104)
Bizet - Children's Games
Rimsky-Korsakov - Two Choruses for Children's voices
Bliss - Peace fanfare for children
