I could add Tan Dun as an extra composer...in a work which features Kublai Khan, Shakespeare, Sheherazada, Mahler and Dante!

The Vivaldi is an operatic character (not the title role) and the VW is also 'hidden' somewhere in a southerly direction... Wink

Yes. Can you 'discover' the Tan Dun or the Vivaldi operas? The Vivaldi is a relatively 'new' opera, only recently unearthed.

Meyerbeer – L’Africaine (features Vasco da Gama)
Vivaldi
Vaughan Williams – Sinfonia Antartica (Scott of the Antarctic)
Milhaud - Christophe Colomb

The Tan Dun is Marco Polo. A very good CD label.

Well dug out, Tony. The character line-up looks interesting! http://www.tandunonline.com/Composition/composition.asp?id=9&s=11

You'll need to head westwards to 'discover' the Vivaldi... down Mexico-way!

The Vivaldi could be Montezuma, featuring Cortez.

Yes indeed. Motezuma was 'rediscovered' in 2002 and was recently recorded. There would be a second recording, but there's some sort of court case to be resolved, I believe, but Alan Curtis' DG recording is very good indeed and I recommend it:

So, our full line-up of explorers, thanks and congratulations to Parsifal and Tony, is:

Meyerbeer – L’Africaine (features Vasco da Gama)
Vivaldi – Motezuma (Hernán Cortés is a character)
Vaughan Williams – Sinfonia Antartica (Scott of the Antarctic)
Milhaud - Christophe Colomb
Tan Dun – Marco Polo

Night all.

Bliss: An Age of Kings
MacDowell: A Flower from the Realm of King Arthur from Piano Sonata No. 2 "Eroica"
Chausson: Le Roi Arthus

But what about Gluck...? Huh

The Chausson is correct! The MacDowell deals with other key characters...

Albéniz could lead you to the Gluck.  Wink

Morning, Parsifal! Very good. The Albéniz is a curious piece, rather Wagnerian and with an English libretto which clunks along at times; some impressive music though.
