That's the one martle! Well done to martle and IGI !!

Composed in Paris:

Piano Concerto No 4 - Prokofiev (probably also Saint Saens)
Nocturne in C sharp minor - Chopin
String Quartet in F - Ravel
Second Piano Sonata - Boulez
Symphony No 92 - Joseph Haydn

I think now it's likely that Saint-Saens composed his concerto in Paris, and may have later decided to dedicate it to Antoine Door, of the Vienna Conservatory, while on tour in 1875.

There were two choirs I was investigating yesterday; the RIAS Chamber Choir, but I think it's more likely to be Polyphony.

Here's another to keep the grey cells hopping. No title connections, but something unusual connects a work by each of these four:

Britten
Berlioz
Vaughan Williams
Berio

I have a sub or two warming up on the sidelines, too.  Smiley

Would Debussy be one of those warming up on the sideline?

Intriguing, o green one! Could the 'unusual' connection be to do with a quotation? Doesn't Berio quote the idée fixe from Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique in his Sinfonia? But I'm not sure that Britten or RVW feature in it...

Berio wrote an ending to Puccini's Turandot...I wonder if the others have also completed musical works of other composers?

Wrong on both counts. I might have made a mistake on one of the composers. sorry people. That one being Messiaen. But the others are true.

I will also add Elgar, Britten and Maurice Durufle

Nothing to do with quotation or Debussy, George and IGI, highly intelligent though those lines of enquiry unsurprisingly are. The subs are still 'LINIING UP'.  Wink

Nope, oh cardinal one. None of these is operatic. More to do with instrument(s).

I wondered if we might have been looking for setting of the same line of Shakespeare/ poetry.

So, perhaps we are seeking unusual musical line-ups, instrumentally speaking? Is the Berio one of his Sequenzas? No.2 for harp? (thinking of Britten's Ceremony of Carols/ Berlioz's Trio of  Ishmaelites for two flutes and a harp in L'Enfance du Christ. Harp and flute also feature prominently in VW's Fantasia on Greensleeves)

No, IGI. Very cold. I'll have to leave you to ponder now, being bedtime! But a farewell thought: solos.  Wink

Viola Concertos without being called Viola Concerto....?

Berlioz - Harold in Italie
Berio - Voci
Vaughan Williams - Suite
Britten - Lachrymae
