Cold, or just 'chilled', martle? (which is how the champagne should be... - just noticed this is reply No.3000 on the thread!!) How about Strauss' 'Ice-Skating' Polka...cold enough?!

Cheers, o green one...have one yourself . It's amazing how many connections we've piled up...and among them could well be the theme we're after. Only 200 pages to trawl... Back on the saddle, agent Gusset.
Aha, was this the clue? Strauss - Jockey Polka?!

No. It's there a few posts back, though. Meanwhile, I'll throw in another fairly obscure English Thomas:
Thomas Pitfield Joseph Strauss Malcolm Arnold Prokofiev Thomas Dunhill

I'm pretty sure we've had this 'theme' before That pretty well rules out Thomas Pitfield's The Rejected Pieman then. I had high hopes for that. Hmmm. Dandipratts, Vagabonds, Urchins? Any mileage there?

IGI, pure genius. Not the Arnold I was thinking of though. But you're on the right track!

Pitfield - Maid of Hearts?
Dunhill - Happy Families?
Arnold - The Night My Number Came Up? (Bingo! Or not.)

If we're seeking card games, could the Arnold be The Bridge on the River Kwai?

Tricky. I can't find any Josef Strauss operettas, only Johann. Can we have Johann Strauss’ Kaiser Waltz instead?!

Stage work, IGI - not necessarily in its English translation... Would it be Folichon ? which translates as Jester so maybe Joker ? It's listed at Naxos as a Quadrille, can't find a stage work but I'm guessing now that it was incidental music for someone's opera??
