That's the one, George. I was mistaken about its being a stage work, though - sorry chaps! 'Passiflora' (translated as 'Patience', 1857). I was trying to avoid the obvious 'Patience' (and, for that matter, 'Spades'!). Well done to all!

You played a good hand there, martle! Was Barber's A Hand of Bridge waiting in reserve, I wonder?

OK, time to 'twist' your minds around again with a back-to-front NMC
Determine the correct composers for these commonly named works and there'll be something that links the works

Some guesses to get us started....
Symphony No 1 - Piano Concerto No 1 - Stabat mater - Dvorak Sinfonietta - Janacek Harpsichord Concerto - Frank Martin
Bound to be wrong, but a start

I'll join Tommo in drawing a bow at a venture
Symphony No 1 - Shostakovich
Piano Concerto No I - Tchaikovsky
and see where the arrows fall.
My other thought was that perhaps the connection might be that none of the works are actually what they say they are.

I'd got as far as noticing Poulenc had written a Harpsichord concerto, a Stabat Mater AND a Sinfonietta. But then I came to a sickeningly grinding halt.

Well done George too!!
The works are what they are, though for the first two I haven't noted the key.

Hmmm. Now my next thought after Shostakovich was to add Britten's Sinfonietta with the theme being works written when the composers were still in their teens. But Janacek rather puts the lid on that one.

Ok, well if we discount Baroque, that doesn't leave a lot of harpsichord concerti. de Falla?

opilec has it!
Symphony No 1 - Shostakovich Piano Concerto No 1 - Bartok Stabat mater - Szymanowski Sinfonietta - Janacek Harpsichord Concerto - Falla 1926. The year 'associated' with these works, not necessarrily composition date, in some cases premiered or published, but usually 1926 is the date put in chronological lists.
Well done folks, and no clues given !!

Right, I'm back (late night last night and busy morning today)....
Many of you were right, my quiz pieces were all connected by size being in the title.
The Liszt, I'm afraid was a little(!) obscure and relates to the Miniturleider which are mentioned on Hyperion's Liszt page but have yet to be recorded!
Well, you did all keep getting the other quizes I've posted before so I thought I would make it difficult this time!
