Wink

And don't forget Purcell:

Thou knowest Lord
Thou knowest, Lord, the secrets of our hearts;
shut not thy merciful ears unto our prayer,
but spare us, Lord most holy, o God most mighty.
O holy and most merciful Saviour, thou most worthy Judge eternal,
suffer us not at our last hour,
for any pains of death to fall from thee. Amen.

Providing amusement to choristers all over the world for decades if not centuries.

BTW there's an excellent Dutch sound engineer by the name of Paul Jeukendrup. His surname translates literally as... well, I'm sure I don't need to tell you.

No, Jonathan...no other pieces linked to the seasons:

Wagner
Rimsky-Korsakov
Barber – Summer Music
Raff
Respighi

IGI,

I'm going round in circles so it's time to break the circles and check some of these  Cheesy

Wagner - Die Feen (The Fairies)
Rimsky-Korsakov - Russian Easter Festival Overture
Barber – Summer Music
Raff - Im Walde
Respighi - Pines of Rome

and the link is Bax who wrote similarly titled works  Roll Eyes Undecided

In The Faery Hills, Festival Overture, Summer Music, Happy Forest, The Tale the Pine Trees Knew

Just a quick moderatorly thing: George has clarified for me that when he ends up posting just a . it means he's slipped and would prefer the post to disappear entirely. Personally I would trust you all to use the delete function responsibly and am trying to have it reinstated. In the meantime I'm happy to make George's .s disappear for him. Something to bear in mind perhaps.

Very well done, JW, on the Baxian connection!  Wink
I was thinking of 'Twilight of the Gods'/'Into the Twilight' for the Wagner link.

Yes, I'd support the reinstatement of the 'delete' function too.

Eh? You're kidding IGI, that was just a mish-mash of possibilities from me and I hust hoped ONE of the titles would be correct for some completely different link!  Cheesy

Must checkout more Bax at the Coventry library, I noticed they had a nice batch of Chandos CDs there  Smiley

Ah,  sorry.  I thought George was bringing all that nose related silliness to a full stop before it got out of hand.

Hence my "draw a line under that" post.

I don't mind if we have delete or not.  I would be quite happy continuing with . now I know what it means.

Rimsky-Korsakov - Russian Easter Festival Overture

Another pairing would be 'Christmas Eve', the title of another of Bax's symphonic poems as well as of a R-K opera.

Plenty of wonderful Bax on Chandos, John - their mid-price reissues of his orchestral stuff is mostly conducted by Bryden Thomson, with some from Tod Handley.

Wow! Bravo for that bullseye, JW! I could see us struggling with that one for days.

Apologies all for the confusion over my
.
It is simply the smallest thing short of deletion that the 'Modify' button allows you to have. Never fear, Tommo, I would never want to bring silliness of any sort to a full stop. I'm a great believer in silliness. It's a serious and important business. Cheesy
