Here's a new one to solve...

Szymanowski
Satie
Mendelssohn
Bloch

Single word connection to spot!

Your word Sir or rather concept is "night"!

Szymanowski: Third Symphony opus 27, which sets a Czech translation of a Persian work of which the name is variously translated as "The Song of the Night," or "Song in the Night" (1916);

Satie: Cinq Grimaces pour Le Songe d'une nuit d'été - id est Five Grimaces for A Midsummer Night's Dream (1915) - Eric Alfred Leslie Satie had a Scottish mother but we do not know whether he spoke English!;

Mendelssohn: either Die erste Walpurgisnacht, opus 60 (1831), or the familiar music to A Midsummer Night's Dream (1842);

Bloch: either In the Night, for solo piano or orchestra (1922), or another work entitled simply Night, for string quartet (1925).

So what prize do we receive then?

A very good attempt there, Sydney, but 'night' wasn't the link I was seeking on this particular occasion, although the Mendelssohn piece does come from A Midsummer Night's Dream. The other three are piano works.

Unlucky there Grew, not the first time a contestant has identified a link other than IGI's own.

Prize Huh on 'winning' ? Just satisfaction, Grew, satisfaction Smiley

I'm struggling and so far only came up with

Szymanowski - Masques Op 34
Satie -
Mendelssohn - Danse Bergamasque from Midsummer Night's Dream

Oh Lord, one of IGI's tricky ones methinks, Mendelssohn - Danse Bergamasque is correct but link isn't dances or masques  Roll Eyes

 Cheesy I'll need to read some LP notes or maybe even listen to the music  Shocked

aaaarrgghh - I've just said on the Good Morning thread that I must do something useful today after yesterday's non-day  Tongue

No day in which you hit the Quiz Inquisitor's target with Bax is a non-day, John.

But as for this one Huh  I've just found a piano piece by Szymanowski called Masks and was about to lay it before IGI's feet, only to find that Ruth's Mask had been cruelly shunned.

Dig deeper, George and you could be mining gold... Wink

Never fear, Tommo, I would never want to bring silliness of any sort to a full stop. I'm a great believer in silliness.

And so am I, really! Keep going, John!

Szymanowski
Satie
Mendelssohn - Danse Bergamasque (Dance of the Clowns)
Bloch
Leoncavallo -  Pagliacci (Clowns)

Good try, Tommo. I was thinking of a less specific clown, who, like Leoncavallo's, may not be in The Happy Room.

Yes, Tantris the Clown was the one we're after.
