From the Rimsky Korsa coffeehouse there is of course his own famous Sheherazade -- or is that all too obvious?

Nicely done, JW! Some lovely music amongst this selection. The only piece I don't know is the Bottesini which, interestingly, isn't for double bass solo! The Nielsen is brilliant, especially the Marketplace at Ispahan, where different melodies are layered over each other.

Cherubini - Alì Babà, ou Les Quarante Voleurs
Ravel - Shéhérazade, ouverture de féerie
Rózsa - The Golden Voyage of Sinbad
Johann Strauss II - Tausend und eine Nacht
Weber  - Abu Hassan
Bottesini - Alì Babà
Nielsen - Aladdin
Rimsky-Korsakov – Scheherazade
Rabaud - Mârouf, savetier du Caire (Cobbler of Cairo)

I'm only familiar with the Scheherezades but I do have an LP of Abu Hassan featuring Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, really don't remember playing it; I think the old NMC avatar deserves a revival after bringing that to my attention  Wink

I've heard of that Schwarzkopf recording, but have one conducted by Bruno Weil which is good fun:

Ok, time for another back-to-front NMC where you get the compositions but have to find the right composers and the link

Capriccio for piano duet
Flute Concerto in G major
Piano Concerto No 1
Octet in E flat major

First stab:

Capriccio for piano duet - Richard Rodney Bennett
Flute Concerto in G major - Mozart K313
Piano Concerto No 1 - mmm, no key...is that significant? Villa-Lobos?
Octet in E flat major - Mendelssohn

IGI,

The Mendelssohn is correct - I put it at the end but it was the expected easy 'starter'  Smiley

Not Rodney Bennett. Not Mozart.

The Piano Concerto probably hasn't a key, Anna may be able to help........

Loads of G major flute concerti...how about Vivaldi's RV 439 which at least has an interesting title 'La Notte'?

Antheil's Piano Concerto No.1?!

 Smiley Antheil is correct

Capriccio for piano duet -
Flute Concerto in G major -
Piano Concerto No 1 - Antheil
Octet in E flat major - Mendelssohn

Not Vivaldi for the flute concerto but like him our mystery composer was quite prolific in that genre.....

Well, I was going to say Tchaikovsky but since you mention it, it could be Adge Cutler and The Wurzels:

"I got a brand new Piano Concerto and I'll give you the key"   Cheesy

I'll get me coat.
