How about we make a 'rule' here that we try only ever to have one puzzle going at a time? Otherwise it gets confusing and hard to follow.

IGI - I'm struggling a bit with yours. A hint, or a sub off the bench, perhaps?  Tongue

Here's the first sub, then, martle:

Glazunov
Holst
Rachmaninov
Sibelius
Nielsen

The Sibelius and Nielsen require a bit of digging, but the latter is quite well known.

Let's not forget the quartet I posted yesterday:
And now that one of the more intractable of puizzles in this thread has been laid to rest, let's not forget Elliott Carter's splendid orchestral three-piece-suite that we all know and love as Three OK-sions...

Vaughan Williams - Fantasia on Greensleeves?

Unless you're looking for variations:

RVW - Variations for orchestra (arr. by G. Jacob from Variations for brass band)
Butler - Bluegrass Variations (for solo violin)
Wilby - Paganini Variations

No idea about Tim Wheeler...

Yes, IGI, well done. All have done variaitons, etc. Tim Wheeler, well thats me!! You obviously wouldnt have gussed my contribution. I have done an arrangement for brass band of the last movement, (Finale), of Beethoven's Eroica Symphony. So all to do with the 'variation' theme)No pun intended there!!)

Now, I thought there could well be a brass band connection, but no idea it was you, bbm!!

I think it's time to bring a second sub off the bench, as martle's gone strangely quiet...

Glazunov
Holst
Rachmaninov
Sibelius
Nielsen
Balakirev

Being away, IGI, I'm having a few unanticipated research problems on a friend's laptop, so I may have to wait till I'm home! By which time someone's bound to have got it...  Cry

Hmm. Anything to do with the East, Sunrise?

Glazunov - Oriental Rhapsody
Holst -  Beni Mora, Oriental Suite
Rachmaninov - Oriental Dance
Sibelius  -  Oriental March from Belshazzar's Feast
Nielsen  -  Helios Overture  Huh
Balakirev   Islamey, Oriental Fantasy
Johann Strauss II  - The Oriental, um, Polka, Waltz, March, er ...
Richard Rodney Bennett  -  Murder on the Orient Express

I do hope we are not descending into the sin of 'Orientalism' here or we'll have the Thought Police after us. It's a bit too late for Othering Sunday this year anyway.

Nicely done, Mr Garnett!!  Cheesy

Glazunov - Oriental Rhapsody
Holst -  Beni Mora, Oriental Suite
Rachmaninov - Oriental Dance
Sibelius  -  Oriental March from Belshazzar's Feast
Nielsen  -
Balakirev   Islamey, Oriental Fantasy
Johann Strauss II  -
Richard Rodney Bennett  -  Murder on the Orient Express

Just Strauss and Nielsen to go... (perhaps you need to march further East for the Nielsen  Wink)

Oh look, Nielsen seems in his Aladdin incidental music to have written an Oriental Festival March...
