Er, Gesange des Orients?

...was the Richard Strauss sitting patiently on the subs' bench.
For Johann, you were looking for his Märchen aus dem Orient.

Here's another quartet for you to try...one sub already added!  Wink

Josef Strauss
Nielsen
Britten
Saint-Saëns
Vaughan Williams

It's a link between the titles, bbm, but not a common word link.

Britten - Abraham and Isaac
Saint-Saens - Samson et Dalila
Vaughan Williams - Job
Josef Strauss - haven't the foggiest Huh

A belated good evening to you all.

Sorry to disappoint, but nothing biblical about this one. Here's a Modest addition to the list...

Josef Strauss
Nielsen
Britten
Saint-Saëns
Vaughan Williams
Mussorgsky

Britten - did he do an Abraham?

Certainly did.  One of the Canticles is Issac and Abraham, but not what we want here.  The clue must by Josef Strauss.

The clue must be Josef Strauss.

Not necessarily. Perhaps an extra composer may help...

Josef Strauss
Nielsen
Britten
Saint-Saëns
Vaughan Williams
Mussorgsky
Kalevi Aho

The VW is very well known, as is the Mussorgsky. I'll leave the most obvious candidate for now... Wink

It wouldn't be Songs of... would it?  Sounds too simple to me.

No, but songs may well appear as some of the featured compositions, Don.

Now ...

Aho has written two works on an insect theme - Insect life and An Insect Symphony.

So ...

Aho - Insect Symphony
Mussorgsky - Song of the Flea
RVW - The Wasps
Josef Strauss - Die Libelle (The Dragonfly)
