YESSSSS!!

Wasn't the Dove one of a number of instrumental commissions by Glyndebourne to complement the Mozart Gran Partita, IGI? Forget which year that was - early 1990s? Jonathan Harvey was also commissioned, and the works were intended to be played outside to accompany the noshing of caviar and glugging of Dom Perignon as I recall.

Yes, a little digging around reveals its first performance was in 1991, at Glyndebourne with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

And there's a 2005 edition of Discovering Music devoted to the piece here.

[Late Edit]: It was issued as a CD titled Glyndebourne Wind Serenades, and is available via the US site ArkivMusic.  Smiley

I only have one Grechaninov, the Passion Week,  and it has gone walkabout,  Sad  I have searched and searched in vain.  You now mentioning his name I will go and search again.  I may be some time.

Is this a pastoral theme?

Glazunov - Symphony No 7 "Pastorale"
Handel - Pastoral Symphony from Messiah
Vaughan Williams - A Pastoral Symphony
Grechaninov - In the Green Meadow (alright, I know it's a bit tenuous)

 Huh

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

Yes, pw, you've found the link!

The Grechaninov link is his 2nd Symphony in A minor, which is also titled 'Pastoral'. Guess who the next composer was to be?!  Cheesy

Snork unbounded!!!  Martle x 3 Sonic Scewdrivers in a clinch with Billie Piper would be ideal!!  In a clinch with Catherine Tate - less than ideal quite frankly.

I remember shedding a tear in the last series at the suicide of the last Dalek - and then they came back!

Btw, part of the Chistmas episode was filmed here (look away if you don't want a spoiler) - it involved Cybermen and David Tennant was here also, and lovely he was so a transfiguration is temporary.

The next composer for Pastoral would be Beethoven of course.

It could well have been, although I may have teased you with Rawsthorne (2nd Symphony, 'Pastoral') first!  Wink

Another farily easy one. It's a common word link again... sort of.  Wink

Debussy
Rachmaninov
Finnissy
Roy Harris

A couple of subs are at the ready, one awaiting his first NMC cap, I believe.
