I've had a puzzle over this IGI. Initially I thought it was insects but couldn't get one for Strav, then birds but couldn't get one for Gottschalk. Probably way off the mark with this too:-
Schumann: A Poet's Love Gottschalk: Dying Poet Vaughan-Williams: Poet (from The England of Elizabeth) and a stab in the dark = Stravinsky: Apollon Musagete - Calliope, the Muse of Poetry

A good shot there, Anty, but nothing hit the target. Try another composer:
Stravinsky Vaughan Williams Schumann Gottschalk Messiaen

Schumann: Midsummers Night Dream
Schumann? If it was Mendelssohn, then.... No, nothing nocturnal, Anty. Keep trying. As well as some piano pieces, there are two choral numbers here...

Gosh, you've all been busy. Sadly, no hits there, so here's another composer...
Stravinsky Vaughan Williams Schumann Gottschalk Messiaen Schoenberg Dvorak
It is a common word link you're seeking.

In fact, Dvorak and 'White Dove's arrival' gave it to me. Here's one: Holst Puccini Barber V Youmans Prokofiev Paul Desmond Glass Get those, then find the next and keep going. Oh, and can you find other works that would demonstrate the connection? Tommo

Intriguing, Tommo. The only time I've knowingly seen Youmans' name is as the composer of 'Tea for Two', which DSCH arranged as his Tahiti Trot. Any good? And Paul Desmond could well be Take Five... Are we looking for a mathematical sequence? Is it the Fibonacci sequence? Holst - (but I can offer Bliss' Adam Zero as a sub!) Puccini - One fine dayBarber - Symphony in One MovementYoumans - Tea for TwoProkofiev - The Love for Three Oranges Paul Desmond - Take FiveGlass - Eight Days in JuneIf so, Thomas Albert's Thirteen Ways (based on Wallace Stevens' Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird) could be next. Then, there's the Butterworth song 'When I was one and twenty' from his Housman settings. As for an alternative sequence... Bruckner – Symphony No.0 ‘Die Nullte’ Bernstein - One Hand, One Heart from West Side StorySchnittke – Variations on One ChordVerdi – I due FoscariDe Falla – The Three-cornered hatVaughan Williams – Five Variants of Dives and LazarusReich – Eight Linesand another... Nyman – A Zed and Two NoughtsMaw – One foot in Eden, still I standWeill - One Touch of VenusSmetana – The Two WidowsWeber – Die Drei PintosRavel - Cinq mélodies populaires grecquesBerlioz - Huit Scènes de Faust
