OK, here’s another anagram composer puzzle, along the same lines as the ‘Il Tabarro’ one of a few days ago. Ten composers this time, listed alphabetically again. Uncover a composition by each of them, take the initial letters of those compositions and rearrange them to make an eleventh ‘mystery’ composition by one of the listed composers.

Your ten composers are:

Beethoven
Butler
Henze
Mendelssohn
Rameau
Rimsky-Korsakov
Rossini
Saint-Saëns
Schubert
Sibelius

Great try, autoharp, but I'm afraid it's not Butler's Hootenanny. As consolation, though, I can reveal that your Mendelssohn is correct!

Beethoven
Butler
Henze
Hebrides - Mendelssohn
Rameau
Rimsky-Korsakov
Rossini
Saint-Saëns
Schubert
Sibelius

Nice try, turfers, but no further joy there, I'm afraid. I can reveal that there are four stage works lurking, another overture, and a concertante work amongst the line-up.

Your Iggership, might we have a little clue? Does the ten-letter title consist of more than one word?

No, it doesn't. I should add that the compositions include a solo instrumental piece which is not for piano, and a tone poem.

Please Sir. I've got a note excusing me from Tone Poems.

Please Sir...

I'll take a small punt on the Butler, IGI. 'Bluegrass Variations'?

(God knows what it's like. Sounds distinctly 'poppy' to me.  Wink )

I was only listening to it a couple of days ago, in fact!  Wink

One of the stage works is a ballet, the others operas, although ballet plays a significant part in one of them.

The Henze might be Ondine or Undine, eh?

Could the opera in which ballet plays a significant part be Saint-Saëns' Samson et Dalila?

Very good, tf!

Beethoven
Bluegrass Variations - Butler
Undine - Henze
Hebrides - Mendelssohn
Rameau
Rimsky-Korsakov
Rossini
Saint-Saëns
Schubert
Sibelius

The Saint-Saëns, Ruth, is not operatic. (Crikey, you were up early today!)
