The brain's a bit rusty at the moment!

Time for a simple one. Connect these four...

Oh, hang on, Charles T Griffes. I was thinking of Charles P Griffes. Back to the drawing board.

Far too quick, George. You can save this for later...

Here's a slightly trickier quartet (although GG will probably get it straight away, the form he's on!)

Satie
Gershwin
Ligeti
Reich

It's not linked to cities, but you're right that it's not a common word link.

Reich: Nagoya Guitars

Is this related to Nagoya Marimbas? I hadn't heard of this piece before until George mentioned it yesterday evening, but have tracked down a CD featuring the Safri Duo, who I think are very good, coupled with works by Per Nørgård and Jacob ter Veldhuis, so I've ordered it, as the clip I listened to online sounded intriguing.

Transatlaticism, IGI?

Gershwin - AiP
Reich - Different Trains (contrasting US and European train journeys during WWII)
Satie - Piccadilly (La Transatlantique)

Stuck on Ligeti, tho'...

Nope. You're looking (or listening) for a genuine 'musical' connection.  Wink

Are we looking for car horns here?

Ligeti - Le Grand Macabre, whose prelude is for an ensemble of car horns;
Gershwin - An American in Paris, complete with car horns
Satie - Parade, which includes car horns, sirens and typewriters
Reich - Huh

Well done! Yes, a quartet of works involving car horns. City Life is, indeed, the Reich to join An American in Paris, Le grand macabre and Parade.

The Reich piece is actually called Electric Counterpoint innit. Safri Duo, Per Nørgård: sounds promising. Jakob ter Veldhuis: big thumbs down from here. I'll be interested to know how you get on with that...
