Three Miracles, innit IGI ?

...from The Tale of Tsar Saltan. The three miracles in the interlude are a squirrel cracking golden nuts, thirty-three warriors emerging from the deep and a magnificent city rising up on a barren island.

to Anty and Martin for uncovering the four pieces!

Hurrah!! <satisfied emoticom>  Daniel? do you mean Martin?

Here's another to keep the weekend rolling along...

Puccini
Tippett
R Strauss
Rossini

Not a common word connection, this.

I wondered about a Shakespeare link, but couldn’t make a Puccini connection.
Birds? Puccini’s La rondine and Rossini’s La gazza ladra fit, but…

Royalty?

Tippett – King Priam
Rossini - Elisabetta, regina d'Inghilterra
Puccini – Turandot (a princess)
Strauss – Schlagobers (a Prince Coffee appears in this ballet, I think?)

No hits anywhere there I'm afraid, IGI.

(One or two subs lined up and getting a pep talk, just in case.)

Anything to do with titles existing in alternative versions by different composers?

Puccini composed a La Bohème, but so did Leoncavallo
Rossini composed The Barber of Seville, but so did Paisiello
Strauss composed Salome, but isn’t that also the title of a Peter Maxwell Davies ballet?
Tippett? Mmm, he composed The Blue Guitar …not another piece of music, but it is the title of a Picasso painting which inspired it.   Huh

Sorry, no. And the connection is not in the titles themselves.  Wink

However, you got lucky with the Rossini!

Rossini - The Barber of Seville
Strauss
Tippett
Puccini

Nothing to do with disastrous first nights, martle? Rossini's Barber at the Teatro Argentina (which I saw in Rome...the theatre not the premiere Cheesy) went very badly and included a cat wandering across the stage; Puccini's Madama Butterfly also had a disastrous first night. Worth pursuing?

How about:

Rossini - The Barber of Seville
Strauss - Salome, where Jokanaan gets more than a short back and sides
Puccini - Turandot, where Turandot threatens her suitors with a similar fate

Tippett, er, Crown of the Year?

And the Prince of Persia meets that fate in Act I!
