Hoorah! Didn't think we were going to solve that one.  Smiley

Frank Wildhorn

Never heard of the chap. Undecided

The composer of some spectacularly unsuccessful Broadway musicals, Pim. Hmm...

I know, but an essential player in this game... Wink

Tchaikovsky
Howells/ Vaughan Williams
Scriabin/ Bernstein
Hillborg
Liza Lehmann
Frank Wildhorn

I read on Wikipedia that Mr Wildhorn made a musical version of Jekyll & Hyde.

A singing Mr Hyde. I'm amazed. Undecided

IGI, what does the / between two different composers mean? A collaboration? Works with the same title? Anything else?

As there have been no answers to this poser* just yet, I'll hazard a guess at an avian theme:

Tchaikovsky: Duck Pond Swan Lake
Hillborg: Peacock Tales (Clarinet Concerto)
Howells: Peacock Pie

*given the Don Carlosian name of our quizmaster, surely he sets Posas not posers  Cheesy

Just that there are two works which would meet the criteria in this connection, but you only need to find one of them.

As there have been no answers to this poser* just yet, I'll hazard a guess at an avian theme:

Tchaikovsky: Duck Pond Swan Lake
Hillborg: Peacock Tales (Clarinet Concerto)
Howells: Peacock Pie

Not an avian theme, but you do have the first correct answer. Now scroll back carefully at previous posts...the clues are there!

Tchaikovsky
Howells/ Vaughan Williams
Scriabin/ Bernstein
Hillborg - Peacock Tales (Clarinet Concerto)
Liza Lehmann
Frank Wildhorn

I'm thinking that the linkage is in the word 'game'?
Or is the word 'sinister' applicable here?
If it's game it could be either of the songs about rabbits or hares in Bernstein's La Bonne Cuisine but I'm a bit stuck as to how that translates into Scriabin (although Scriabin has a few works for the left hand)...

Could it be Cluedo?

Tchaikovsky: Professor Plum (Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy)
Howells/RVW: Reverend Green (Forest Green (RVW))
Scriabin/Bernstein: Mrs White (A White House Cantata (Bernstein))
Hillborg: Mrs Peacock (Peacock Tales - Clarinet Concerto)
Liza Lehmann: Colonel Mustard (Mustard and Gress)
Frank Wildhorn: Miss Scarlet (Scarlet Pimpernel)

In which case, Lady_DHS, HH wasn't too far off with the word "game" Grin

(And the alternative Scriabin must be piano sonata No.7 Op.64 "White Mass".  And the Howells - In Green Ways.)

IGI isn't around tonight as he's staying over in London after the Late Prom before attending tomorrow's concert as well.

However, Lady_DHS and I did catch him earlier, and he has confirmed that Her Ladyship's Cluedo link is the correct solution.

It seems a shame to wait until he gets back to break open the bubbly:

Cheers Ruth! <drinks champagne>

I feel that I've arrived now that I've solved one of IGI's fiendish quizzes.

As IGI is still off enjoying the bright lights of the big city, how about we stick with the board game theme and see if we can find a musical connection for everywhere on a Monopoly board? I have no idea if this is possible, but I have confidence in people's ability to turf out the most obscure works.

I'll start - Fleet Street (Sondheim - Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street)

I'll follow with "Knocked them in the Old Kent Road" but I don't know who wrote it!

<beetles off to try and find one for Whitechapel so I can start my London property empire.  Credit crunch? Pah!>
