On the Monopoly theme...

There is indeed a song called Liverpool Street Station and unfortunately I've no idea who wrote it, but it would be someone who writes for education I think (like Jan Holdstock or that kind of person). I'm sorry if my information is rather sketchy, and I have to say that I've only ever heard of this song by repute, but the interesting thing about it is that it's one of those songs where you omit some words from each ensuing verse - a bit like She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes. Anyway, at the beginning the words don't seem to relate to the title at all, nor apparently for several verses, but in the end as more and more words are omitted, all that is left are the spaced out syllables which then sound the eponymous title. Get it?

Wonder if any of the primary teachers may have come across it.

Johann Strauss II - Frisch Gewagt (Take a Chance), galop for orchestra, Op. 475
Sullivan - The Yeomen of the Guard: Night Has Spread Her Pall Once More

Peter Maxwell Davies' Cross Lane Fair for Northumbrian pipes is the nearest I can get to Northumberland.

The roads are as follows:
Old Kent Road (Chevalier, Knocked them in the Old Kent Road; Ruth)
Whitechapel
The Angel Islington (Springsteen, The Angel; HtoHe)
Euston Road
Pentonville Road (Babyshambles, Pentonville; Ruth)
Pall Mall (Sullivan, Night Has Spread Her Pall Once More; IGI)
Whitehall (Haydn Wood, London Landmarks Suite March: the Horseguards, Whitehall; IGI)
Northumberland Avenue (Tickell, Northumberland Air; Andy)
Bow Street (Birtwistle, Bow Down; Oz)
Marlborough Street (Grainger, The Duke of Marlborough Fanfare; IGI)
Vine Street (Pärt, I am the true vine; IGI)
The Strand (Grainger, Handel in the Strand; Don B)
Fleet Street (Sondheim, Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street; LadyDHS)
Trafalgar Square (Gurney, The Night of Trafalgar; IGI)
Leicester Square (Jethro Tull, Jeffrey Goes To Leicester Square; Andy)
Coventry Street (Leighton, Coventry Carol; IGI)
Piccadilly (Satie, La Piccadilly; martle)
Regent Street (Davies, Regent Street Rag; Anty)
Oxford Street (Vaughan Williams, An Oxford Elegy/Coates, Oxford Street; Ruth)
Bond Street (Bowie, Maid of Bond Street; HtoHe)
Park Lane
Mayfair (Coates, Meadow to Mayfair Suite; Ron)

The four stations are:
Kings Cross Station (Pet Shop Boys, King's Cross; Anty)
Marylebone Station (Berg, New Songs Sung...At Marylebone; hh)
Fenchurch Street Station
Liverpool Street Station (Donizetti, Emilia di Liverpool; Ron)

The utilities are:
Electric company (Reich, Electric Counterpoint; IGI)
Water Works (Handel, Water Music; Ruth)

Not forgetting:
Community Chest
Chance (Strauss, Frisch Gewagt; IGI)
Jail (Ibert, The Ballad of Reading Jail; Ruth)
Go to Jail (Lloyd-Webber, Go, Go, Go, Joseph!; Ron)
Free Parking
Income Tax (Harrison, Taxman; Anty)
Super Tax
GO! (Viñao, Go; richard)

So at the moment, Ruth and Ron are in Jail (sorry Ron but Lloyd-Webber earns you time in the clink), richard's got £200, Anty's been taxed (but just be thankful I didn't give you Super Tax), IGI has to pay for house repairs (but thankfully doesn't own any), and I think that HtoHe is the only one in sight of any kind of monopoly if he can only pick up Park Lane.
Andy might consider selling his 'Get out of Jail Free' card (courtesy of his Abba Chance Card) to either Ron or Ruth, but Ron owes Ruth rent, Martin owes Ron rent for Liverpool Street Station. A shame that IGI didn't have enough cash left to buy Northumberland Avenue otherwise that would have given him the whole area...

Well, I could go alphabetically by title of piece, alphabetically by band name, award it to the first one mentioned and it comes out as Jethro Tull every time. I was thinking perhaps that Rancid should win due to the economy of the title, but I rather like the addition of Jeffrey.

Does that match up to your prediction Mr D?

There seem to be two bands called the Bow Street Runners but neither have written any song referring to their name as far as I know. Whereas a sixties beat combo called the Bo Street Runners made "I'm a Bo Street Runner and You Can't Catch Me" The missing "W" rules that out of course, said ditty being a pastiche of the beat and style of Mr Diddley, hence the name.
