Oh I'm all over the place today This is the first clue: Good try turfers, but not quite heroic enough.
And this is the second: Not that obvious... something a little more subterranean.
Hope that's clear now, otherwise I really do need help.

I know how devious you are, and I would like to air the following suspicions:
1. Your last post here is also a clue ("I'm all over the place today")
2. The words "heroic" and "subterranean" are NOT the actual clue words in your clues. The keywords are "not quite" and "a little more"
Brahms - "Immer leiser wird mein Schlummer" Lachenmann - Dal niente Du Fay - Os Justi - a gradual Britten - The turn of the screw

That is absolutely brilliant! I really wish that was the way my mind was working. Have a gold star for effort and ingenuity.
Clues: heroic + subterranean

Subterranean heroes? Yes. Britten's edition of Purcell's Orpheus Brittanicus?
The theme is rather more contemporary than that. And you've gone too far down.

Hmmm... I don't recall any of those composers writing anything to do with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...

Benjamin Britten: The Rape of Lucrezia Raphael's Lucretia
The Lachenmann's absolutely right. Wrong turtle for the Britten, and with the exception of the Du Fay, the turtle's name appears in the title or subtitle of the work in question.

If you (or anyone else) hasn't found it by the end of the day, I'll announce what the work is, and then wait for you to tell me why...
(Well done Robert, by the way)

Is the connection something like: Du Fay's motet O sancte Sebastien and Raphael's St Sebastien? (I think there are a couple of titles that could link in this manner...)
Or is the link something not related to the title?

It's not in the title. It has to do with the circumstances surrounding the work's first performance. And you're a turtle down. Raphael has already been covered.

Oh, where is my head? I think it's disappeared into the vortex of disbelief at the connection actually being the Ninja Turtles.
