Oh; missed that. Congrats! In fact, I've never had a cigarette in my life. How's that for willpower? OK, back to cheering on those who actually need it.

You really are the cruelest and most wonderful person! Tommo Fine then, here's something a little more sombre, made by yours truly: (you can make your own here: http://www.thecheezburgerfactory.com/ ) Ooh you tease! I can't see any of these images whilst I'm at work - some Firewall / Brunhilde nonsense - so I'm going to have to wait until I get home. In anticipation... Tommo Oh. And I waited all that time for that..... Tommo

Well, haven't given a bulletin report for a while. I've stabilised at 10-13 a day, but haven't yet gone any lower than that. There really isn't much of a craving for more any longer - though need to be careful if going to a pub where I can sit outside, and am with other smokers. Right at the moment I'm spending large chunks of each weekday in the BL, where at most I will take one break (during 4-5 hours, or longer, sessions) to go outside to the place on the side where smokers are allowed to practice their evil habit. Otherwise, the biggest cravings are as follows: (a) first thing in the morning; (b) after breakfast; (c) after lunch (when I have it, that is very erratic); (d) various points in the evening, especially when it gets later (I'm usually writing until late while I'm in the process of finishing my book). I could probably make (a) and (b) into a single one, then have one at lunch, and one in the mid-afternoon. That would leave a maximum of 5 to have from late afternoon through the evening. To get that down to just 2 in that period would be very hard at the moment. How to break the cravings in the daytime? If it could be merely an evening choice, that would be a major psychological hurdle overcome.

Ian, RESPECT. It's tough, I know - I've tried. But your progress is admirable, especially given what are obviously major work pressures. Keep going, as Berio would have it.

Any tulips that might grow in my garden might have to negotiate having a cigarette put out on them as I diligently go outside for it

Earlier in the evening, I was watching three parts of the 1981 dramatisation of Day of the Triffids (not very great script, to say the least, certainly in terms of the dialogue, and the acting leaves a fair bit to be desired, particularly with the character of Josella - nonetheless still rather captivating), and the two leads were forever SMOKING!!!!! It seemed the most natural thing in the world for them... Two weeks ago, was re-watching Threads (still as good as it was back then - if 'good' is really the appropriate term! Certainly reminded me how much an imminent nuclear war was on many of our minds in the early 1980s), and one character, in the post-apocalyptic world, was saying to another how much he used to love a cigarette after eating ..... ARGGGGGHHHH!

I know what you mean, Ian. Even though I haven`t taken the plunge yet, I find that I have become very aware now when someone lights up on screen. Then this grumpy little thought scuttles across my mind - `Humphh. They won`t be able to do that in the future`. In fact they probably won`t seeing as the depiction of smoking in films is now to be under serious consideration i.e. is it appropriate or in character. Small sigh. Eventually, to future generations, it will look as archaic a pastime as bear baiting.
Btw all congrats and encouragement to you. Good man!
