Sadly, a rejuvenation experiment aimed to increase her attractiveness to both sexes went horribly wrong for Barbara Cartland.

Something I read about the difference between men and women in the Times rings more true the more I think about it. With men, it's the end result that matters, whereas with women it's more about how you get there.

I wonder how that logic works with deciding how to have a sex change

Tommo
Might it not first be worth trying to figure out whether deciding how (or even whether) to have a sex change might itself involve logic?...

Best,

Alistair

Well good point.  You can see where I was going though. Wink

Actually, this sort of generalisation gets my goat.  Surely closer to the right facts are:

a. Some people are more bothered about the outcome than the journey there
b. Some people more bothered about how you get there than the there
c. A large proportion of men fall into category a, and fewer in b
d. A large proportion of women fall into category b and fewer in a
e. dogs are anyone's guess

I await the results of rigorously scientifically-conducted surveys.

And what about ladies?

Wonderful! But I hope that you get a few from Mr Porter. Sorabji once said to me that, if only modern popular songwriting could aspire to the subtlety, sophistication and unpretensiousness of Cole Porter, it would deservedly be recognised as a higher art-form than it is - he added that, for him, there was a substance to Porter's best work that elevated it to a level above the Gershwins, Kerns, etc. and he saw it as in some way analogous to (though obviously very different from) Poulenc's songwriting (and, again, he regarded Poulenc as a song composer first and foremost and had little time for much of the remainder of his work).

For the record, I've given up on Ms McClarinette and have never indulged in cocaine...

Best,

Alistair

Have you tried snorting Susan McClary? I'm sure you'd get some kicks from her if you did ... Grin

Which of Porter's songs did he have in mind?

Ooh you tease!  I can't see any of these images whilst I'm at work - some Firewall / Brunhilde nonsense - so I'm going to have to wait until I get home.

In anticipation...

Tommo

[Edit - how did those words of mine appear in the quote last time?]
