My friend talks of Wallace so much. There is another composer that he talks a lot about. He said that Wallace used to work on several operas at once. I think he said that Wallace organized London symphony orchestra. Could that be true? I like the music. It is light operetta type of music.

I believe Wallace was a bigamist. I have the only recording of Maritana (Scenes that are brightest, Yes let me like a soldier fall), but haven't listened to it for ages.
I wish someone would record Benedict's The Lily of Killarney (Eily Mavourneen, The moon has raised its lamp above), which Lilian Baylis always played at the Old Vic for St Patrick's Day. The corn is as high as an elephant's eye, of course, but it has a charm lacking to its two Victorian stable mates, Maritana and Balfe's The Bohemian Girl (I dreamt that I dwelt in marble halls with vassels and serfs at my si-hi-ide).
Some wag named the three of them The English Ring, although Balfe and Wallace were both Irish, and The Lily is set in Ireland.

I think my friend told me that he run away with a nun and his sister. They went to Australia. At the end of this trip he was with the sister (I am not sure if she was a nun too). I am going to ask him again to be sure.

Good morning. Here is Vishnevskay singing an aria from Katerina Ismailova. I never liked her singing, but after listening to this aria I am thinking may be I was too hard on her. http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=0ImUTmhdkJ4

Greetings all! Another beautiful Autumnal morning. Bright and crisp with a chill in the air. Everything feels newly washed somehow. I love Autumn!

I love Autumn! Me too Mort. I was helping a Chinese lady find Charing Cross station yesterday, she spoke little English and she was standing on Victoria station lost. We were walking up from Embankment and I commented on the nice Autumnal weather for something to say .. It is 'comfortable' she said. I though that was sweet! A P. S memo to self, don't try to use transport in Central London on a Sunday

Beautiful autumnal day here as well. The odd sprinkling of rain, but mainly sunny and bright.
I'm taking teenager to the local NHS hospital for his assessment at 4.30 today. It's the same surgeon that operated on me when I had a lumpectomy. Mine was benign so I'm hoping for the best for him. My mother is going to look after little one till we get home. On the whole I'm feeling better about it than before. He'd have to be very unlucky for it to be something really serious, at his age. Things seems to be looking up in every other way for him so maybe his luck has changed.

I hope it goes well, Milly. Beautiful autumnal weather turned into on-and-off rain here, torrential at times, much worse than the forecast. The trees on the way to the supermarket looked absolutely stunning, though, some of them quite colourful already. Sun's out again now. Oh - good morning(ish) .

I am a sloth. Last night I was hanging around (eating cake...) after the final concert of the festival and suddenly I realised just how tired I was. I don't know whether it was the concentration of listening to my new piece (the performance was the first time I had heard it 'in the flesh' all the way through) or the (possible) mistake of eating a large lunch with wine followed by nothing for tea (I just wasn't hungry - lunch was really rather filling) except for the cake, but I realised that I needed to sit down, or even better, lie down. I was only hanging around to check that everything was tidied up ok but my student helpers had done most of that and the artistic director was still attempting to drink all the wine that had been bought so I trudged home. Where I realised that I needed to change the bedding (friends were staying over the weekend, so I had been sleeping on my inflatable bed in the lounge). Made myself a sandwich and a drink, and steeled myself to it. As I climbed into my bed (ah the wonderful feeling of sleeping in a bed after two nights on a lilo!), two gentlemen, worse for wear, began a conversation that went on for about an hour, just outside my window. One of them was in a really bad way (psychologically) so opening the window and asking them to go elsewhere seemed insensitive but hearing all of his problems over and over again was not what I had in mind. Finally they left. And finally I slept. Which is why I'm here so late in the day. I had meant to go shopping but that might have to wait till another day.
