Don't like the sound of those glands, Mort. Bed, liquids, the usual. Knock the blighter on the head!

Glad to see a certain other moderator is up and about and ready for the fray.  Wink

Good morning. Sorry to hear you're not well, Mort.

I'm on a bit of a high after hearing a fabulous performance of Tchaik 5 at the Liverpool Phil last night under Petrenko. He looked totally drained (and very hot) by the end. Also Hilary Hahn in the Violin Concerto, not my favourite piece but she was good - I've never seen her before and was impressed on the whole (apart from some rather dodgy intonation on the very high notes). She looked lovely.

Dull and mild here.
Glad it was good...was it a sellout?  I sort of regret the symphony but I couldn't bear the thought of the violin concerto so I went to my rehearsal instead, and anyway I have to go to two Rodewald concerts this week.

But I had some treatment yesterday from a sports injuries person who looks after the Phil and he said they've just come back from a tour of Germany and are all absolutely knackered.

He tells me Vasily is a swimmer, which helps explain his physique.

(Where does he swim, I wonder...)

I think I slept for around 9 hours last night.
Really needed it.
Still feel a bit like I've run a marathon or fallen down the stairs or something due to excess sleep, but at the same time, I feel rather wonderful.
My history of music class yesterday could tell me what happened in 1605, could tell me that it had something to do with religion, but told me that Fawkes was protestant. They also couldn't tell me which king was on the throne. I can forgive my students not knowing about kings and queens of England pre 1603, but after that, I have no sympathy.

I'll put something about yesterday's concerts on the Live Concert thread.

It was more or less a sell-out - still a few seats left on the platform behind the orchestra. (I agree about the concerto.)

I'm not going to the Rodewald, but I know several people who are going to those as well as last night's. Radu Lupu is sold out.

Good morning Mary - I wish I was.

Back in the office after a very entertaining couple of days learning how to copy edit properly. The woman who came to run the class was a former school teacher and she hasn't really let go of that.  The first ripples of bemusement/ amusement began when she asked us to take turns at reading through a house style guide, and then she wouldn't let someone leave 5 minutes early to pick her daughter up, 10 minutes after she had promised she would have finished.

She certainly knew her stuff, but it really wasn't adult education!  Cheesy

Mort - sorry to hear you've not been well - how are you feeling today?  Kiss

Morning Ruby. Thanks Kiss I'm feeling rather 'spaced out', which is not altogether a bad thing Wink but my glands have returned to normal now. Hooray!

Good news on the glands - you must have done something right yesterday.  Smiley  I think feeling spaced out is pretty much par for the course with the bugs doing the rounds at the moment.  Suggest taking it easy while your brain revs up again.

Glad you're feeling better Mort.  Hope it continues, especially the space-outness.  Wink  I could do with some of that.  Sad I've had a couple of nasty minutes in the car.  One last night when I was manouevring out of a tiny car park at Blockbusters, with teenager and child in the car.  I knew I was going out of the entrance instead of the exit and a big silver BMW swung in and started flashing me.  I was feeling fraught because it had been a long day so I drew up alongside him, opened the window and yelled "OK OK I KNOW!  I'VE MADE A MISTAKE HAVEN'T YOU EVER MADE A MISTAKE?"  To my horror, he wound down his window and said, ever so nicely, "I'm only trying to tell you that your lights aren't on."  I felt this big.  I apologised and said I thought he was telling me off for going out the wrong way and he replied "Oh and yes, I DO make mistakes," gave me a disgusted look and drove off.  So I was driving without lights as well.   Cry

This morning I came back home from the school run, indicated in plenty of time and braked but there was a mini right on my boot.  I slowed right down in good time to turn into my drive but he decided to lean on the horn as he went past. I did the same.  I was very cross.  I was only trying to come home.  This happens a lot.  People drive too close and sometimes I've overshot my house because I haven't dared turn into the drive.

This should be in the grumpy room I suppose.  Sad

I hate it when that sort of thing happens!  People can be so intolerant and it can really get to you can't it?  Coming home from Leeds a few weeks ago I pulled out from a slip road onto the ring road a little bit cheekily - I didn't exactly cut u pteh car behind me but I could have waited as well - however I've had much worse done to me without my feeling that it justified any kind of reaction.

On this occasion, the guy in the other car completely overreacted in quite a psychopathic way.  He flashed his lights, beeped the horn solidly for about 5 seconds and then stayed right on my tail for a while and then noisily overtook.   After a while he slowed right down to crawling pace, leaving me no choice but to overtake him.  He took this opportunity to do a rather rude gesture (that I have to say really only applies to men) out of the window.

I have to say, I absolutely floored it to get well past him.  I nearly pulled over because I was shaking so much but I didn't dare in case he caught up.   I had to repeat to myself the idea that he'd probably had a very bad day...
