Thanks folks. So far so good. He had a nice long walk this morning and has been out in the garden several times this afternoon. I left him briefly for the school run and he was ok - I've got to leave him briefly again now - less than an hour while I take the child for his swimming lesson. Then we're in for the evening and he can get used to us. He's an absolutely stunning dog but totally CRACKERS! He was racing around in big manic circles at about 40 mph on the nature reserve here. He's good at coming back when called, and sits, lies down etc. He pulls a bit on the lead but I'll soon sort that out. His energy, joy and joie de vivre are a wonder to behold. I wish I had some of the energy.....

Lucky Dudley - he'll be much happier with you Milly than he was previously. Hope you have a peaceful night with him - he's not a bed dog is he?! Our neighbours' medium-sized (but even so, fairly large as part sheepdog) dog sleeps on their bed! A medium-sized cat's bad enough for pinning you down so you can't move!

The only dog who ever slept on my bed was my first one, Simon, that I grew up with from the age of 8. That was as much to keep warm as anything else! We didn't have central heating. We're about to have an early night. He's going to sleep on Alfie's bean bag at the foot of my bed. We've had a very good day in fact and he's just been told to lie down and has done. This is all going too well!

Morning all.
Bleeegh, what a gloomy morning! Wet wet wet and the sky is slate grey. Somehow the rain sounds cold, if you see what I mean. Shiver shiver.

Morning. Cold and grey today, but not as bitter an edge as yesterday. Hope all is well with you all.

Just for the record, I'm sitting in my office (in south - well, south central - London) and it isn't raining.
(At the moment. It's still extremely damp though.)
Good morning, by the way! Despite the fact that the first thing I had to say this morning was a grumpy old rant...

Ah well, I am a 'moved' Northerner. I had my fair share of rain for the first...100 years of my life, perhaps it is my turn to experience the Southern way of life!! A

I'm a "moved" Northerner, too.
And the weather here in SE1 is now absolutely revolting.

I am now back after having ventured out into the elements (not one of my smarter moves). I practically had to wring my shoes out! It`s so dark here it might just as well be the evening and there has just been an enormous clap of thunder. It sounded as though someone had emptied many tons of bricks on the roof. It certainly had me doing a vertical takeoff. SHRIEK!!!

If it's any consolation, we had gales through the night, and the sea's still angry. There's been a deal of rain, too, and the temperature has dropped markedly.
If any camera gets out today, it will be the waterproof one.

The light up North-London-ways seems to have shifted from unbearably gloomy dark grey to insipid light grey. And the rain has stopped (for now). I may even venture out of the flat if this holds.
Good morning (just) all!

MJ Absolutely excellent thanks Mabeljane. You'd think he'd lived here for the last ten years - or at least all his life....just under 3 years....He hasn't pined for his former existence for even a second or at least as far as I can tell. Any road oop, he's settled in a treat. I can't really say I'm enjoying the daily walks in the bitter cold to the same extent that he is. When I let him off, it's like taking a gazelle out. He leaps and bounds with such unadulterated joy and does huge figures of eight at about 30 m.p.h. and then charges full pelt straight at me. Now experience with the breed - and they're all the same believe me - has shown me that when adopting avoidance tactics, timing is of the essence. You have to wait till the very last second before diving to the side. Too soon and you're flat out, because they always go the same way. I've had dogs hit my knees at the front during the charge so hard that I've gone right over the top and landed flat on my face. This probably explains the turned-up nose. Well that's my excuse anyway. So thank you for asking but everything is back to normal in Millyland, daft adult, wonderful child and maniac dog. It is the formula for success!
