Ah, but life is a double-wicked candle for you young ones, is it not, my antipodean virtuoso of the five barred gate?

In my case it certainly is! Grin But today I have had a blissful lie-in, not waking until 10:30.

The opera marathon is nearly over.  Magnificent LSO Billy Budd last night, at which I made the acquaintance of member harpy128.  Tonight, GOT's Macbeth, preceded by drinks with Reiner & IGI.  Then no more opera for a whole week Grin

Awoke this morning to find that my flat was without power.
Padded around a bit then retreated to the warmth of my duvet once more.
Finally decided that I would have to get up, power (and thus breakfast, damn and double damn electric cookers) or no power.
Settled on a banana, some orange squash and a shortbread biscuit for breakfast.
And then the power came on.

Hum.

I really need to get into a better routine on the days that I'm working. My days off are becoming recovery days and I'd much rather be making better use of them!

Good morning everyone.

Last night I was feeling ill and thought I was coming down with a cold, but I think it was more just a case of exhaustion after a punishing month, and general sadness, so it was a relief to be woken up this morning by the little one at 9.15 not feeling so bad after all.  She and I (alone together for the weekend) are now listening to Stimmung after which it'll be time to get soaked doing the foodshopping.

Later on we'll be going along to hear some Messiaen played by an old friend.

I feel the same about that too hh. I'm self-employed now and just work 3 days usually. Yesterday was just a non-day, mainly because I have a lousy cold and stayed in bed late, the afternoon I just had music on and messed around with IGI's NMC, didn't feel like doing anything, only stepped out of the house once, texted my drinking mate that I wouldn't be out, thought I'd be staying in with the missus to watch a film but she upped and went out with a friend at 9.30, so I went to bed feeling useless. Everyone else rolled in at about 1.00am ! Angry

Bit better today, another long lie but will make an effort to do something but it is pouring down outside, still stuffed with a cold.

Which recording?
I've only got the DG original one on LP.
Keep on meaning to have a listen to alternatives but never quite get around to it.
I wonder what they have in the library here?
Oh. We've got the Hyperion recording and the one from the Stockhausen Verlag (the Paris version apparently).
I listened to some of Samstag last night. Now I have power again I may well finish that off and launch into Hymnen to accompany an afternoon's work.

Theatre of Voices (which I wrote about in a Stockhausen thread somewhere a few weeks ago). It's the only version of it I have on CD, I didn't have the energy to set up the record player but then I think I probably still know every smallest corner of the original recording. Last night was Mantra, the first Stockhausen piece I ever heard.

Now for the shopping. Ugh.

Young?!

Hm.

In any case, not much wickedness going down here, single, double or otherwise...  Undecided

Ollie, no sign of any wickedness going on here either. Sigh. Now where did I put my Scenes From Sodom and Gomorrah needlepoint set?  Roll Eyes

One hardly dare imagine where the Sodom component thereof might have ended up, Mistress Mort....

(And was it just needle point? I thought it needed to be placed in a vat of coloured stuff once completed: doesn't the packaging say "Sodom, for Gommorah you dye?")

I think you lent them to me Mort so as I could incorporate the Cormorants fleeing into the distance?

Good morning everybody!

In the past four and a half weeks, I have been to the following: Aida (five times), the John Foulds World Requiem, a Rosenblatt vocal recital, Elizabeth Maconchy's The Sofa and The Departure, an LSO concert including the Chichester Psalms and Carmina Burana, a Philharmonia concert including the Khatchaturian Piano Concerto and another Carmina Burana, L'elisir d'amore, Das Wunder der Heliane, the LSO/Gergiev Mahler 6, Maria Stuarda, The Sacrifice, The Rake's Progress, The Turn of the Screw, a double bill of the Handel Dixit Dominus and the Durufle Requiem, Albert Herring, another L'elisir d'amore (by Glyndebourne on Tour, the previous one having been at the ROH), Billy Budd and Macbeth.

I have sung in several church services and a Bach concert.

I have met several messageboard members and made the acquaintance of several opera singers.

I have been to a lunch party and (sort of) gatecrashed a free champagne-and-canapes do.

I have spent a fortune (mostly on the social life surrounding the events rather than the events themselves, most of which were already paid for), drunk far too much, and comprehensively neglected both the housework and the gym.

As of today, I officially have my life back.  This week I get to spend my evenings writing my Christmas cards, de-junking my flat, and getting a succession of early nights.  It will be a musical, financial and alcoholic detox.

It's been fun though Grin

I'm jealous again, though I haven't got that much stamina. Slightly silly question probably, but which of those performances did you get the most out of?
