IGI, those are fab (and the ones you posted on the NMC thread). Rome has got to be my favourite European city. Don't you love the way Romans stub out their fags on some nearby piece of 2000 year old stone?  Shocked

Yes, and yet there are so many lumps of carved stone/marble almost littered around I'm sure you could throw a few together and claim you've discovered a new find!

I loved Rome...it's so easy to get around, with so many of the sights so close together; every corner turned reveals a new piazza, a tempting pizzeria, yet another church... and the Roman people are lovely. We dined in a little hosteria by the Farnese palace, just a stone's throw from the bustling Campo dei Fiori, and yet frequented by a few locals - delicious food and an authentic atmosphere. I packed in as much as possible in the short time, but only really scratched the surface.

The beauty of the Sant'Andrea dome was breathtaking:

No Attavanti Chapel, however.  Cheesy

I haven't been to Rome for 20 years or so, but it was the first place outside the UK I ever visited, and it will always be important to me for that.  As a teenager I was given H V Morton's Waters of Rome for a Christmas present.  It lists all the historic fountains of Rome with glossy pictures.  I don't know if its still in print, but I think you'd like it, IGI.

The interior shot of the Pantheon is a technical wow.

When I was a teenager, I pointed the camera upwards in there, and without flash the picture came out as an elliptical white space on a black background.

When I guide Americans round St Paul's and they want to take pictures of the dome (not allowed) I always tell them it is impossible to do justice to domes in photos, and they would be better off buying a postcard in the cathedral shop.

Cheers, db - I put it down to the camera!  Grin

It was a very 'musical' trip - as well as all the Tosca locations, there were a couple of Respighi's Fountains and I also visited three of the Pines locations - an evening walk up Janiculum Hill, the catacombs and the Via Appia Antica.

Here's a snap along the Appian Way:

One sight that caused some amusement was the Bernini elephant, just around the corner from the Pantheon:

IGI, I'm really impressed by your pic of the interior of Sant'Andrea.  Your camera is obviously superior to mine - I tried a similar shot when I was there in 2005, but all I got was a very dark, yellowish blur Sad

Funnily enough my pics from that trip are dominated by Tosca locations and various pines of the Via Appia Antica and catacombs Cheesy  It's a shame one can't get inside the Palazzo Farnese, and a delicious irony that it's now the French Embassy.

er, yes, very impressive, but I find military aircraft ugly and depressing things to look at.

I've always thought fighter jets to be very beautiful (ignoring what they are armed to do). Herons are beautiful too though I know they eat goldfish and koi carp in ponds in our street!

Like JW, I have always found the lines of the Hawker Harrier rather beautiful. Very graceful even if it is an airborne weapons platform. (Ex father-in-law was an aeroplane buff).

I had to go up country very early this morning: the five day farmer's weather forecast on R4 mentioned the likelihood of wintry weather over the the coming week, especially at the weekend. We're well ahead of them....

Great photo again Ron, though I do see apattern of vertical lines from here, don't think I've seen that on any of your previous fine photos....

They're not on the original, John, nor are they showing up here following the cropping and sending via Flickr.

How about this one?
