Sorry Ollie, I should've said that in Firefox you can't get as small as 1pt - which avoids the need for quoting. I see that IE makes your message illegibly small.

Fortunately, I remembered that [ctrl]+[+] enlarges the type onscreen...

Inspired by mention of Midlands sandstone on the Churches thread, I went to the Devil's Spittleful today which is part of a nature reserve very close to Kidderminster. It's a sandstone outcrop crowned with Scots pine. Difficult to get a good shot of it but this is probably my favourite: [cotitsalv]

The Severn Valley Railway runs along one side of the reserve and I could hear, for some time, one of the steam trains puffing its way up the incline into Kidderminster. It was quite spooky as I waited for it to appear in my viewfinder. [cotitsalv]

As I was leaving the reserve I was struck by the odd combination of sounds: chiff-chaffs, great tits and other birds singing; another steam train puffing its way up into Kiddeminster; and a lion roaring in the adjacent West Midlands Safari Park. [cotitsalv] It's an odd contrast - the reserve and the safari park - between 2 entirely differently managed wildlife environments. The safari park looked to be packed though fortunately there weren't many people in the reserve.

O beautiful bridge of the silvery Tay! Alas, I am very sorry to say That ninety lives have been taken away (etc)One would hope - all due Caledonian pride notwithstanding, of course - that candidates didn't feel the need to be obsequiously complimentary about McGonagal's maudlin doggerel Almost utter tripe, of course (the poem, Rei, not your post ) : but he didn't half get the 'silvery' bit on the button: it's nearly always some variant of a glimmering, glittering or glistering metallic hue, and the general trauma experienced in Tayside at the collapse of what was then the world's longest bridge, not to mention that devastating effect it had on travel, adding at least an hour to journeys, almost excuses the paucity of his inspiration. The stumps of the old bridge may still be seen alongside its replacement - a strangely chastening sight, especially when you're crossing it in a storm....
