Fascinating stuff, JW. I've only a clue on two, maybe three, of them.

But I have to take issue with whoever is spouting all that pretentious bull in clip 5. Who does he think Stravinsky was - some kind of Delphic oracle who could see into the future? That he was influenced by his time isn't in doubt: that he was some kind of wise sage or prophet is. My low opinion of him is well enough known around here and I don't want to go on about it. But come on, whoever it was who was talking: get real!

Hello S-S,

The Rite of Spring

Hmmm, yes, if you listen carefully to the clip he refers to events occurring every Spring (in Russia?) up to 1913, presumably referring to revolutionary stirrings were occuring every Spring in Russia after the snow melted; but I believe Stravinsky moved to Paris before 1911  Roll Eyes

Any Stravinsky experts on here care to suggest Rite Of Spring predicting the outbreak of WWI (1914) or the Russian Revolution (1917)?

On the other hand hardly anyone seriously doubts Mahler's predictive powers...

No problems with Q 3...in the technical sense....just that I am online with a CD playing in the PC...( Yoshimatsu Cello Concerto) so do not want to play soundclips....

Will have to make another visit to test the clips.

Oh dear, should have got a few more of those.

One of the things that I think got me was the Bach.  From the sound and instrumentation this was obviously Bach, but I remembered the tune as a violin concerto.  Wasn't this work originally a concerto for 4 violins by vivaldi?

Tommo, yes indeed, and I should said so in the answers. Bach's concerto is an arrangement Vivaldi's Concerto for 4 violins, Op 3 No 10.

If it's not privileged information, I would be intrigued to know which one IGI failed to identify ! Maybe he'll tell us later.

I think I'll leave that to IGI  Cheesy

Those scores were initial entries. I offered clues via PM to most entrants and they responded very quickly and correctly.

Some of the clips were interesting, some were all I could find quickly for that person. I particularly liked what Maria Callas said.

It was Previn I failed on  Sad - I was trying to identify an American violinist...didn't think it was going to be a conductor!

I should also admit that Gould was a lucky guess!
