That Boccherini was unexpected! Not the answer I was expecting at all!

And the Purcell now falls into place - I heard it only a few weeks ago...

I ought to know the Mendelssohn octet though (goes off to revise...)

Thanks for the fun!

Good evening!

A fun quiz, John. I should reveal that I had to do a bit of detective work to track down the Purcell (and some careful listening to the LP). The Saint-Saëns, though instantly recognisable as a piece I knew, took a few 'play throughs' in my head before I got him!

'SOUNDS FAMILIAR" QUIZ NO. 3

The third quiz is up now, the 10 questions are again related to sound clips accessed via a form, and entrants can get a score or clues from me on this thread or via PMs.

There are no really obscure pieces of music but spanning over 250 years a very general knowledge is required for full marks. There are one or two which might appear ridiculously easy - to people who know the genre.

R3 Boards 'Sounds Familiar' Quiz No 3

Apology:  some of the clips may sound a bit wobbly after conversion to mp3.

Good luck,

Aargh, I can't possibly hear them in this bar!  Angry

I hope the quiz will stay up until next weekend...

(And I also hope that if I hear something and think the equivalent of 'hm, that's probably the Fandango from the Boccherini guitar quintet' I'll just pop it in the form and cross my fingers!)

Arrghhh John!

You've done it again.  I'm sure I know all of these, but they are just hidden somewhere in the back of my so called brain....

Thanks (I think?)

That settles it, I'm bringing a serious pair of noise-cancellers to this bar tomorrow... Wink

Well, there have been over 70 'views' of the Quiz No 3 yet only 1 entrant.

Is the quiz too difficult?

Are the sound files too big for some PCs to download easily?

Any other reason? (go on, say it's cr@p if you like  Tongue )

Mine was pretty semi-, too.  I forced myself to not really do much cheating -- I did have to check to remember which mvt the excerpt was from on two of the questions, but otherwise ...

I will let the Quiz 3 run for a week then.

I will however post another quiz in a few minutes, something a bit different, just want to see if it gathers more interest than the music soundclips do  Huh
