There's a Respighi Solomon?
Oh, the Queen of Sheba! D'oh! If that's right I suppose I ought to trot over to the Test thread to put it there.

So, Ruth, can you identify the piece?! Regrettably while at work I don't even have access to a PC with a sound card...

Announcement: Cancellation of Self-Scoring Wishing to remove all impediment to Members' enjoyment of the repertoire test we can to-day announce that "self-scoring" - a frightful fag for every one concerned - is no longer required. It will be taken care of in an "auto-matic" way any day now.

Announcement: Cancellation of Self-Scoring A relief for many, I would venture to suggest. On the issue of self-scoring, I must confess that I have been claiming 20 points for a first guess at a snatch, not realising that they are only due for incorrect or incomplete guesses. Therefore, having adding 20 points each for Puzzles 264, 265, 270 and 234, plus 10 for 272, which were all correctly solved, I should be deducted 90 points, bringing my new total down to 19062, which I shall amend in my next Test message.

What must I - a poor and helpless unmathematical mite - DO? A number of Members appear to be in the same boat. Our advice is not to worry but to go on setting and solving puzzles to their heart's content. The matter of their scores will sooner or later be taken care of by Others. Thinking of 'The Others', might I ask who are the phantoms - you or us?... Baz

Is 273 Franz Schreker's Vorspiel zu einem Drama?
Well, Mr Barrett has done it again! I've listened to the Schreker 'Prelude to a Drama' online and am sure it is the answer to 273. Schreker is another composer who has completely passed me by, but this is gorgeous music. So, after ordering Nørgård yesterday, Schreker will surely follow! I've also added Die Gezeichneten (the opera from which the Prelude comes/is based) to my DVD rental list.

I am staggered that nobody has got No.276 yet! SendSpace or Rapidshare Clue - The composer was best known during his own lifetime as one of the leading orchestral and operatic conductors of the day. No need to be staggered. I've listened - the clip seems distinguished only by its complete immemorable insignificance! Why not give a more memorable snatch? Baz !!!

That's odd, Baz. Mr Inquisitor's snatch has been buzzing around in my head persistently since listening. Still have no real idea what it is, though!
