A warning: heaps of points are going to be lost by Mr. Sudden if he does not at once appear and give us outrageously simple clues to puzzles 252 and 253. They have only an hour and a half to run.

Musica Antiqua Köln is the one I have (and the only one I've ever heard).

And me.  But I'm not complaining....  Wink

In an attempt to save Mr Sudden from having one of those heaps removed in his absence I do believe Mr Harp correctly identified Puzzle 252, soon after it was set, as one of Delage's Quatre Chants Hindous.

We thank Member Garnett for the correction; we had had Delage down as 262 for some reason. It is then only 253 which has now expired and 262 which remains unsolved.

Our father drove a Delage at one time and to this day the redolence of its vapours rises in our mind at major intersections.

No longer. 262 is from the first movement of Ligeti's Kammerkonzert as anyone with access to a recording of it may check for themselves in Mr Sudden's absence. (I must have missed that one before.)

Thank you Mr Grew for correcting my wonted absentmindedness by posting my answer to the correct thread. The points I would have had are yours for the taking of course.

We invite the Member to rest assured that the taking was not the intention!

That's because it is.

One of the benefits of staying up longer than anyone else, Veronika - you get my easy snatches.  (Phnaar)

It wasn't really that easy was it? I mean I know Martinu's work quite well but surely most people don't.

Now, whoever is left awake, when is anyone going to have a bash at any of my outstanding snatches?

the person browsing for Schreker
He might like to know that the CD I snatched is this one

to which there's a "Volume 2" I haven't heard.

There are several recordings of his operas too, though apart from the DVD of Die Gezeichneten I don't know how good these are, which is somewhat critical given that Schreker's music places such demands on both soloists and orchestra.

The person browsing for Schreker in HMV reports a fruitless search - neither Oxford Street branch, nor Zavvi (or whatever Virgin at Piccadilly Circus is called now) nor MDC at the RFH had so much as a sniff of the Chandos discs...so I've ordered from the Crocodilians...  Smiley

The DVD you mentioned was available, but I've put that onto my rental list!

richard, you don't happen to know anybody who has a decent recording of Mackerras's ENO Julietta, do you? Mine was made under less tha ideal circumstances, and I have no means of playing my reel-to-reel capture of the broadcast. I have done what I can when digitizing from my cassette back-ups, but much of the original quality is lost. I was fortunate enough to attend one of the performances. Too late for him to record it for commercial release now, I guess.

I wish I did, Bryn. (I did have a chance to see it too.) I would think a rebroadcast must be called for.

I am sure all Members will join me in thanking Mr Grew for keeping such detailed records of this Test. However I note that said records do not yet contain the solution, found by Mr Inquisitor, to my No.283, viz. the Sixth Symphony of Myaskovsky, a dark, troubled and even selfcontradictory work I recommend to all.
