O.k., Puzzle 293 opened the concert, it was followed by the piece that was, in 1944, arranged by Stravinsky, (though that is not the arrangement use d on this recent historic visit by a top American orchestra). The Gershwin work was played later, in the concert proper. Also played were works by Wagner, Bizet and Bernstein, who had something of an attachment to the orchestra in question. I thought you, of all people here would follow international political events masquerading as cultural visits, richard. Oh, and remember, I have been unable to track down the name of its composer. All I require is its title and allocated role.

were some anthems played, too, Bryn? a couple of them?
a concert whose audience came by invitation only, and ended up being about 80 percent male?

I did not notice the gender composition of the audience, strinasacchi, but I do recall that a previous head of state in the country visited appointed a woman to the post of finance minister, arguing that women were good at housekeeping. I have a feeling you may be about to put richard to shame. DO remember though, title as well as designated role.

Quite so, martle. I am indeed shocked that richard did not pick up on that particular clue. So, does that help us to get nearer to the solution?

Nah, I'm not playing - Sid eliminated my name from the running total, so I figure I'm not welcome any more. Granted I was trying for the greatest negative total... but still, you'd think such larks would be tolerated. Apparently the Great Leader of the Snatch Test has no wish to be Dear to me...

Bryn, anything to do with the Boston SO, and perhaps Karl Muck's refusal to perform the star-spangled wotsit (although I don't think it was S's arrangement)? Although, 1944, Koussevitzky...

Strina, as an ex-inhabitant of the Repertoire Test Hall of Shame myself I'm very disappointed that the opportunities for negative scores previously available have been gradually taken away and all the negative totals set to zero. Mr Grew, as a seasoned derailer of discussions himself, seems unwilling to offer to others the latitude for mischief he has so often himselves taken advantage of.

293: North Korean National Anthem played by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Lorin Maazel? (Hmmm. If it is, I expect you want the title of the North Korean Anthem. No idea. 'Hail to thee, North Korea'? No, probably not.)
You are well on the way, George. The title is easily found. But I somehow don't have the energy to search for it, Bryn. I'll bequeath that task to someone who would like the points.

Seconded. And congratulations to Member Inquisitor for the excellence of his snatch-spotting. He must now surely be a hot favourite for the four-star prize! Can we seriously imagine another Member reaching the giddy heights of 33750 points? Let us charge our glasses. We would like to thank Member Sudden for his message and shall redouble our efforts to make up ground on the front-runners. 33,750 points does seem a long distance away, however.... Also, may we echo Mr 1780's thanks to Member Grew for his efforts scoring this grand competition. He must have been up most of the night entering information from posts into his new programme!
