I'm intrigued also to know what new technique of typing Mr Bryn has adopted to lead to isolated characters turning blue in several of his recent posts to this thread.

I believe it is the gentleman's eminently sensible approach to highlighting edits in his posts, which would incur a penalty if such edits were not clearly marked.

Mr. Grew -75 for reply 2041 (off topic)

My Dear Member Grew*,

This is most honourable of you, but I feel you are too harsh on yourself.  Yes, you did respond 15 minutes after the 5 days had run out on Puzzle 287, but at the time of your response the Puzzle had not been declared as 'Expired'.

I cannot see how amending the scoring to address this issue will not open a can of worms, but that doesn't stop me from feeling an injustice has been done.

Mr 1780

It is indeed the 'blue pencil' at work, tommo. I am rather shocked that t_i_n had not worked that out.

According to the Records thread Member Barrett currently has five open snatches. Can this be?

That would presumably be Veronika flaunting her wares again.

We thank Member Sudden for spotting this. Some one some how we do not know quite who has gone astray; for now we have crossed out 348 and 349, and anticipate a restoration of order upon our return in three hours' time.

Without further ado I present
Puzzle 348 and
Puzzle 349.

Unless we are mistaken - a circumstance by no means beyond the bounds of imagination - these two are off the topic, in that the member already has three open puzzles. (We thank a member in the other place for drawing this to our attention.) The next number available to be assigned to new puzzles is therefore 348.

It is to be hoped, however, that those of us who responded in all innocence to these 'fake' puzzles will not also be punished for having been 'off topic'.

To be fair to Member Barratt, anty's guess for 327 received a "Oui Madame", so 348 should stand.

I would check if 325 still stands too, if I were you, in case I have missed anything.

We have also noted Member A. T. Lover's successful stab at 327 in the mean time. Our goodness us, what a kerfuffle!

Indeed Mr. Baziron and Mr. Martle are innocent victims in this regrettable affair. No shame attaches to their efforts and they may continue to hold their heads high.

I suggest that in future Member Grew consult the thread itself rather than Moderator Sudden, who I think needs to be reminded that events in the Test often move faster than the Records. Be that as it may, I see that there are indeed four extant Puzzles under my name and I apologise for any inconvenience caused thereby. However I suggest that no.348 be the one that is struck off, since two guesses have already been made at no.349, which I shall comment on in due course as soon as the puzzle in question has been officially reinstated.

Yes, Anna, the mad, 'circus'-like (to my ears anyway) Sortie in Eb by the grandly named Louis James Alfred Lefébure-Wély. I wonder what congregations make of it when it creeps up on them unawares at the end of a service?!!  Shocked

It's better than having the Archdeacon doing it.
