Ah, there you are! Indeed it is. Hurrah! I had no idea as to your last few snatches, Mr Sudden, and was delighted to get back on the scoreboard this evening with a little Claude!

Members might like to nibble further at snatches 238 and 241. The latter, though brief, is surely quite easy; so far, guesses as to the identity of 238 have perhaps relied more on the known proclivities of the setter than on the style of the snippet itself, which is not to say that this in itself will lead in a straight line to the correct identity.

Puzzle 241 - the correct answer is this...
It is bars 64-5 of J. S. Bach's magnificent Fugue in C (from the Prelude and Fugue in C BWV 547).
OK?

We wonder whether Puzzle 253 might perhaps be from Handel's Concerto grosso in G minor, Op. 6 no. 6?

We wonder whether Puzzle 253 might perhaps be from Handel's Concerto grosso in G minor, Op. 6 no. 6? Nah, it can't be - there are no oboes in Op.6, those are all strings-only. Oops, more negative points for me ...

I'd hazard a guess that No.253 is Vivaldi, possibly his Concerto for oboe & bassoon RV545.
