Recent Puzzles:

Puzzle 226: set by Mr. Inquisitor here - as yet unsolved
Puzzle 228: set by Mr. Inquisitor here - as yet unsolved
Puzzle 242: set by Mr. Inquisitor, solved by Mr. Opilec [Dvořák The Water Goblin]

A clue towards two current snatches. I can reveal that puzzles 226, 228 and 242 are musically connected! Identifying the composer should not be too difficult for 226, although 228 could prove more challenging!  Smiley

Another clue - 226 and 228 have identical titles, albeit in different languages!

226 isn't the Libellen-Walzer by Johann Strauss II by any chance?

A clue will be forthcoming tomorrow morning for 253 but in the mean time it must suffice to know that there have been no correct guesses.

I'll suggest Geirr Tveitt's Nykken (The Water Sprite) for 228 just in case either IGI (heaven forfend) or my source are a year out with his death date...  Undecided

It's not Geirr Tveitt's Nykken, Mr Sudden, although that would have fitted the theme rather well.

Ah, yes! 228 is 'Kratt' (the goblin) by the Estonian, Eduard Tubin, completing our goblin trio. The Suite is on Neeme Järvi’s recordings of the symphonies on BIS.

Perhaps 253 is Telemann: one of his Darmstadt Overtures? Let's hazard a guess with TWV 55.

Celebrate away!
Hurrah!

There are several different kinds of celebration, really.

There's the one where the piece is damn obvious (not, ahem, necessarily because you've left the name on the file). I think of that as being like when someone serves you up a nice slow full toss and you swat it over the fence.

There's the one where the piece is pretty obscure really but you just happen to know it and nail it within a minute or two of the puzzle post. That's like when the ball's on a good length but you spot it in time and split the field with a lovely cover drive for four.

And there's the one where you don't know the piece from the proverbial bar of soap but get it through far too industrious googling. That's like when everything's right up there getting on for yorker length and you can only just keep it away all over but somehow on the last ball you grind one out that stops dead just short enough of the field that you can turn it into a single and wink annoyingly at the bowler on your way past.

This post is thus very much a Type C Celebration.  Wink

...and no, opi, 253 isn't that either!

I like that analogy, Mr Sudden!

Here, then, is Puzzle 254: SendSpace or Rapidshare I wonder how the batsman will deal with this delivery?
