Baz, I have a hunch Puzzle 30 is Butler's Jazz Machines. Well done Stuart - that is correct! Jazz Machines by Martin Butler. Perhaps you could politely wrap the knuckles of our dear martle, and confirm that this piece is in no way "out of date"? Thanks. Baz

Phew, after this I may have to give up.
I have been trying for a day or two to listen to no 25... I can't hear it , it won't download... I may have tried to help strina!!! A

A It's a very amusing snippet, distinctly in the Paganini vein of showing off lots while not saying much. Not quite as difficult as Paganini, perhaps - but there's a Neopolitan air about the accompanying orchestral pizzicato chords and interjections. I may be way off beam, of course - Wieniawski sometimes did things in that vein, but he's already been rejected (I think?? or was that Vieuxtemps who was suggested early on? if it was, can I make Wieniawski my next guess please?). I seem to be lucky with these various downloading sites. But that only means I'll go further and further into the negative I suppose

Or how about Wieniawski's Polonaise Brilliante no.2, seeing as it's in A major?
(Depressing how much stuff I've never played ...)

Not Legende, I have just ( with some help from a friend) managed to hear it!!
It's not one of the thousands of Kreisler pieces is it? ... did they have orchestras though?...mmm

No, Wieniawski was rejected, as was Vieuxtemps which was my first choice. Do we know he was Italian for sure? What about Lalo? Assuming the rules don't say you reject the composer when only the piece is wrong? p.s. I hate to think what our scores are once Mr. Grew gets out his calculator

Not the Polonaise Brillante, strina. Nor is it the Legende, although I think a deduction of 20 points would be harsh as you haven't actually heard the clip, A!

I hate to think what our scores are once Mr. Grew gets out his calculator Ah, I had remembered Viextemps was rejected, but should have looked back more carefully for Wieniawski. No, we don't know it's Italian for sure. It sounds it to me, but what do I know (not much, clearly - Haydn not sounding like Haydn, hardly daring to guess on any other puzzle - this is a wonderful exercise in humiliation!). How about Fiorillo? I don't think I've guessed him yet. Not sure if he wrote anything besides studies, though.

It's not Saint-Saëns, is it? I wouldn't have thought so, but ...

Not Fiorillo, Tchaikovsky or Saint-Saëns, I'm afraid.
