IGI's Puzzle 320: Vaughan Williams: Quintet in D?

Yes, indeed, Mr Garnett. It is the Quintet in D for clarinet, horn, violin, cello and piano by Vaughan Williams, written in 1898.

Mr 1780, I believe that Puzzle 332 is Rachmaninov's The Isle of the Dead, not to be confused with Janacek's House of the DeadCheesy

Aha!  The be-robed Gentleman is correct!  (Have some points)

A guess at No.343 now - could it be Dvorak's Silent Woods?

Sadly, no.

Puzzle 321 - Lefebure-Wely - Sortie in Eb ?

Yes, Anna, the mad, 'circus'-like (to my ears anyway) Sortie in Eb by the grandly named Louis James Alfred Lefébure-Wély. I wonder what congregations make of it when it creeps up on them unawares at the end of a service?!!  Shocked

Hurrah!  To have solved one so early in the morning! To me it sounds like fairground music - is it ever played in Church I wonder?

Whoo hoo!!!

But maybe one of these days I'll get one by actually recognising the piece rather than chasing up the clues. Undecided

Let us now that the moment for a clue has arrived wrap up puzzle 351 with as much despatch as possible. Its composer's name begins with "Sz" but he was no Pole! He expired only a few months ago.

According to Mr. Karpati writing in Grove the composer was "never drawn to the avant-garde," which we find difficult to comprehend seeing that he created for his own use a special kind of free serialism. A good example of this technique may be found in his Trasfigurazione for orchestra, written in 1972 two years before the present work.

Another critic indicates something nearer the truth, saying that he "never for one moment gave up his radicalism." Here is an interesting photograph of him with his large dog.

This is a guess we regret to say but is Mr. Inquisitor's puzzle 354 from Schumann's Fantasiestücke opus 73 for clarinette and pianoforte?

I'm afraid it is not, Mr Grew.

Might 354 be Howells' clarinet sonata of 1946, Mr Inquisitor?
