Let's stop messing - I typed the wrong no. It's no. THREE in Eb (not 2) - yes?

Number 3 is entirely correct in this case. Number 4 contains the scherzo of genius, the scherzo of number 5 is like a faint echo thereof, and the scherzo of number 3 (this one) is like a faint foreshadowing. All four extant concerti are quite lengthy works but we cannot quite tell how serious the composer was.

Oh thank you! I'm delighted to get there in the end. But I feel so ashamed that my creeping senility was so pronounced even as to type in '2' instead of '3' (as genuinely intended) the first time that I insist (in order for you to keep me 'on my toes') that you penalize me double points for such slackness.

Mr. Baz, if I am remembering this rightly, snatch 109 is the 2nd movt from Mozart 40.

It is indeed Mr Daniel - well done.

Correct Tony - and sorry the previous link went to the wrong file (hence the edit).

Not at all, Baz; thanks for setting the puzzle. This means I'm entitled to a "joker" message so I thought I'd take advantage! I wonder whether Mr Grew will work out the scoring from when you originally put up the link or from when you amended it.

I've just put on the K421. It's from my Brilliant Classics big red complete Mozart box, played by the Franz Schubert Quartet of Vienna. It's not at all bad. In fact there are plenty of good things in that box to make it quite a bargain.

Mr Grew will (quite rightly) deduct 75 points because I edited the posting (even though I HAD to in order to restore the link to its correct location). He's a stickler whose finesse and homage to duty are boundless. But then he has to be, because if he wasn't we should all start complaining wouldn't we?

Sometimes, however, he has been known to exercise leniency - and we must not forget that he invented this thread (which, I feel, has turned out to be both entertaining and educative).

I'll perhaps post another puzzle later this evening.

Mr Iron, I couldn't resist, especially as it was one of my favourite pieces as a teenager!  Cheesy

I shan't be setting any more for now, as I'm away later in the week and won't be able to check up on answers/ give out clues.
