We have sun today. I don't know for how long, but the sun is shining now.
I hope to catch a little sunshine later.

bbm,
Is there any chance to have a sun there where you are?

Just a gentle, though protracted pattering of drops here, Mort. And a definite drop in temperature.

Thor has arrived in Norf Lunnun

Meanwhile, a short distance to the east, a sense of foreboding descends over the calmness...

... oops, wait a minute, what's that? Gordon H Bennett! Batten down the hatches!

Thor (not to mention Donner and Froh) passed through Brighton early this morning.  Now it's just turned cold, grey and windy instead.

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

Upon this island of rich and miraculous plants, the seeds grown fruits hung from the trees and, smaller than apples, dropped with the pacific winds on to the ground to lie there and be the harbourers of the summer slugs.

Guess the Author!  Clue:  Cwmdonkin Drive!

I will retreat to the kitchen forthwith to chop onions for potato salad

Total gloom here but no thunder and lightening to accompany it as yet. At the risk of hijacking the thread for a short spell, I was a bit taken aback during Mayor Nagin's press conference when he gave an almost smirking threat that any looters will be going straight to Angola State Prison in an admittance that the place is hell on earth. I have no illusions about our prisons and know there are many in society who would welcome a return to the days of Newgate but I can't imagine an official glorification of such grimness.

We had a good day for the first time in such a long time.
No nagin conferences here.

When we were walking and enjoying sunshine there was so many motorcyclists. I thought there were no less than 10 000 people. At first there were many gardai and then people on motorcycles. People on the street were taking pictures with their mobily phones.

I don't know what it was, but we could not wait for all of them to pass, that is how  many of them there were.

Mayor Nagin's press conference

Met boffins seem to think Nagin is overracting, by calling it the 'mother of all storms' etc. But I guess after last time he's at least going to make sure he can't be accused of downplaying it. New Orleans now has a curfew, I see.
