For some reason I've always thought that the golden apples of Greek legend were pomegranates, but I've probably invented that.

No, that was my understanding too.

PS, YUM, btw

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_apple (tomato?)

Pomegranite seeds are the only thing that Persephone eats (6 of the tasty morsels) during the time that she's abducted by Hades. They are the thing that seal the time-share deal that H strikes up with her mum.

Lowering the tone for a moment, have we sufficiently yet dealt with crisps? And why is it so hard to find smoky bacon flavour ones these days?

Whenever we went on holiday to a Greek island, my ex and I used to buy those ubiquitous German paprika flavoured crisps and munch our way through packet after packet playing cards in the evening, drinking bottles of Mythos. They just don't taste the same if you buy them over here.

Now munching Gorgonzola and crackers, to be followed by cornichons with onions.  I do have some plain ready salted crisps as well if the need arises.  I think the most revolting crisps ever were the prawn cocktail ones.  I like the Thai chillie crisps best.

Those pictures of pomegranates are making me feel queasy, I have a real physical aversion to them  Sad

 Grin George

I indulged a bowl of those hard bananas (what're they called again?  we got them from some Indian supermarket) , peeled, sliced and fried in ... butter ... with lots of pepper cracked on to, with a good friend last week.  He was the one who did the frying, and I was the one who had ran out of olive-oil.  Never had them before: will definitely try them again ...

'designer' flavour crisps

Yes, like these -

Angry I saw some that were (allegedly) 'slow-cooked lamb' flavour. So those would taste, er, slower cooked than the fast-cooked lamb flavour ones then.

Do you know, I hadn't thought of that...?
Slow-cooked lamb is all about the melting texture IMO so it's all about association not really about flavour.

Oh god, that word again. I may be gone some time.

I am pleased to report that this time only three were consumed, in distinction to the previous occasion's sybaritic excesses, although I am bound to admit that they were accompanied by a cheese and salami omelette. More of a lunch than a munch in fact. The salami was purchased at the excellent East London Sausage Company, as were other items for tomorrow -

the wurst is yet to come.....
