I missed the eclipse, but we have an expert photographer over at R2ok; scroll through all the messages to see Cherskiy's results: http://r2ok.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?p=15873&mforum=r2ok#15873He also took the low-altitude fighter. Rather good eh? Oh, and nod has posted his red moon shots too!!!

I'll steer well clear of it until I get my next PC, by which time we'll be almost on to Vista's successor I expect. I try to avoid MS software as much as possible but I do have XP on my current machine.

I suppose this really belongs on the Rant thread, but since the subject came up, One of the family who shall not be named, decided we ought to have Internet Explorer 7.0 before Christmas. The installation didn't go as expected, and trying to uninstall just made things worse. She who shall not be named didn't use the [System Restore] facility to take a snapshot of the system before installation, so when I tried to roll things back, I was faced with a nightmare. The FINAL SOLUTION was a complete wipe of the hard disk and reinstall from original disks. Woe! Woe! and thrice

Now there aren't many Message Boards where you could post a message like that and get away with it. From a Moderator too!

Fortunately I am very particular about keeping backups of everything important. Unfortunately, she wasn't. We are rebuilding slowly.

An external plug-in hard drive is a must for me these days in keeping backups. It's so easy to copy everything from your internal drive onto one. I have 2 cute pocket sized 80MB drives which plug directly into a USB port and require no other power. They are very useful for taking data to/from other people's machines as well. And they're so cheap, £75, as cheap or cheaper than buying CDRWs and so much more convenient. Back to your original post, it's so easy to download and install a bit of software and then think, oops I haven't backed things up first. I've done it myself but have got away with it up till now.
