I love the new avatar, A  Grin

By the way, no disrespect intended to A's magnificent bins, but does anyone else rather regret the descent of that lovely word 'avatar' to mean these cyber-ident-thingies on discussion boards. It's a bit like the sad fate of 'icon'.

Oh dear, I'm turning into a grumpy old man. Perhaps a very, very, very small malt and then bed.

As a grumpy youngish man heading into middle age at a rate of knots I've never called them avatars without a certain gritting of the pearlies. For this very reason here I call them postage stamps. Especially since that's another concept heading for obsolescence anyway.

'Postage stamps'! Excellent. That'll do nicely. A distinct improvement on 'cyber-ident-thingies' anyway.

We're so posh here in leafy Hertfordshire that the Council actually call the things in A's postage stamp 'Wheeled bins'. Did we ever find out what Andy D's ones with the look-out turrets were by the way? I was quite scared by those.

Now then, Mr S, your mother and I are getting quite concerned about these late nights of yours. If it's 1240 here in leafy Herts it must be, er, probably something a bit different where you are. Are you sure all these nocturnal emissions aren't going to stunt your hooning strength?

After, ahem, two very, very small malts I have just decided that what I really want to do next in life is to move to a house on the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire border so positioned that I actually can say I am going up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire each night. I think this would give me true happiness.

I think you and my mother would get along famously, George!

It's 2.08 as I type. Which is reasonably normal. My usual sleepy time when I don't have anything else to do is from 2ish to 10ish. Of course that sort of schedule fits well with a job which sees one often having to be at peak concentration from 8-10 pm and peak drinking powers shortly thereafter.

At least your council doesn't call them Wheelèd Bins.

Speaking of nocturnal emissions, I read once that Bruckner used to wear bathers to bed to prevent, you know, his staff getting the wrong impression.

Oh dear, not quite what I meant, bugler it, you know what I mean, I'll post it anyway.

Ah, I'd forgotten about the drinking time, being an abstemious type myself. I had it down to 'coming down from post-performance high' time which presumably must be a factor in any performer's life too.

Hope you had a good time wetting your Birtwistle last weekend.

Now, if that is true about Bruckner, which in principle seems endearingly possible, how did anyone ever know that is what he did?  (Nswr not reqiurd)

Considering your concern about "icon" and "avatar" I am surprised that you should use terms like "Nswr not reqiurd".
Do you use a mobile phone a lot George?
Just how old are you?
Where were you on the night of the 19th?

Sentences like "Bisy. Bak sun. Rabit" I might understand, but "Nswr not reqiurd"? very Un-Pooh-ish.

This board certainly is addictive.  I find myself posting late at night, on the commute (like now) and even managing to slip in a couple at work....Wink

Does anyone else think we need R3ok Anonymous?

It is very addictive, I agree Tommo. If it will continue this way I will stop practising all together.

Quite right Kitty Sad  I was doing it from memory. It is of course "Plez cnoke if an rnsr is not requid"

But as rabbit said, "You can't help respecting anyone who can spell Tuesday, even if it's not right."

Quite right as ever, George. It's not usually possible for me to finish a concert at 10 and go to sleep like a good boy at 11. I've tried of course. Result is usually lying there for 3 hours with my brain whirring away like mad.

Bruckner, yes, um, Faber, Bruckner Remembered, something like that.

Then there is always the superb spelling ability of Owl. He could spell his own name, WOL, and honoured Eeyore on his birthday with:

Hipy papy bthuthdth thuthda bthuthdy.

And it'd better still in Latin:

Flicm felcm ntaalm tatalm natatalm

Or even German (I bought this one in Vienna):

Hirz lerz nuckwnusch uzm bubu bugebu burzkat
