Oh come on Baz, look at his little face A That's not a "face" A - he has two large FANGS specially designed to machete their way through all those steaks of BEAR! Baz Cripes! No wonder I haven`t seen any bears in my garden recently

No Baz, the picture is a bit more 'upper class' A I see A - you mean those things I thought were merely antennae are ALSO fangs? Perhaps we should try feeding them LIONS as well? Baz

They're not fangs, they are eyes on stalks! I was once told that, if you want to becomae a world renowned expert in a particular field, Slugs are the easiest as there are only 50 genera. Not sure if that's true or not now as I prefer my mollusca with shells! Actually, there are vamplire slugs, they have been known to attack one another and liquefy the flesh of the prey (sorry, I'm sitting here typing this while eating my lunch)

I thought this was the "Happy Room". To be positive I should suggest the following: a) we should without further delay refer the Venerable Sydney Grew to the life of slugs, and b) we should then stop talking about them ourselves. Baz

I'll ask Dr. Barry Colville next time I see him - he's written several books on slugs and we went to a lecture by him in Ambleside while on holiday last year which was most interesting.

How could a talk on slugs be interesting....? The only interest I have in them is how many per night my toads can munch their way through ! x Jan x

Indeed Jan! I've now gone right off them in a big way (even after years of watching them gnaw through my prize garden plants). As Jonathan makes clear here... Actually, there are vamplire slugs, they have been known to attack one another and liquefy the flesh of the prey (sorry, I'm sitting here typing this while eating my lunch)
their only PURPOSE is to "liquidate" everything possible that lies in their path. What further evidence do we need to declare them true "seventh-raters" in the natural order of evolution? Baz

Slugs are part of the food chain - same as everything else.
