This really is very pleasant - just written a shell article about the Azores and am listening to a new CD I bought this morning (very cheaply) of Alfredo Perl playing Liszt's Transcendentals.  He really is very, very good!  Also chopped up some more of the tree that fell in the garden while we were away.  Smiley

Going to use any of it as firewood, or?

Possibly increpatio but we've also built a wildlife corner in our garden and it has a woodpile for hedgehogs etc.  We're still undecided about whether to re-install an open fire or not bother!
Annoyingly, it's really hard to cut up as the main brach of the tree (Lilac) is very heavily entwined with thick creepers of ivy which makes it all a big mess really.

Ah, yes; that would be a pain all right.

The whole of my garden feels like a wildlife haven at the moment ! It's like the Lost Gardens of Heligan before they began!!! Such a great growing year, but so wet I cant get out there to do any work ! Yikes ! 3 1/2 acres of this:

(this is not my actual garden)

Still, it looks really romantic, and the birds like it, and BEST OF ALL I dont think I will have to sell up now as my man has decided to move in with me, and buy out my soon to be ex-husband ! Hence my Happy room status xx

This is all sounding great, Jan.

(Perhaps you should park the camper van out the back in different spots for a few days at a time to start curtailing any further growth: otherwise, since it will no doubt be too thick for a strimmer, give it a go with an electric hedgetrimmer wielded like a scythe. Works wonders!)

I've offered the 2 acres of grass to my neighbouring farmer, who could have it for hay or sileage, but its too wet for him to cut at the mo! Perhaps a herd of goats..?

Thanks for all your good wishes, I am hoping that I've turned a huge corner.
My trip to Greece helped me dump my angry bitter stuff from the ending marriage, and Romeo, the campervan is the beginning of me & my man's new lifestyle.
Of course, we're off to London on Fri for our Proms trip, which is frustrating, as we had it planned months ago, before the vanplan, so we'll have to wait til we get back to play in it some more. It's been great fun kitting it out.

We're new Aged travellers !

Brilliant news Jan!  I remember how upset you were that you thought you may have to leave the home you love.  So glad that it's worked out for you. xxx

For myself, when I was first bereaved, I didn't think I could stay in this house because the memories were too raw.  I did try and sell it at one time but there were no takers so I accepted it as fate.  I'm so glad I stayed now because once the raw pain had dulled over time, the memories are comforting and good now.  On 30th August next I shall have lived in this house for 18 years which is the longest I've ever stayed anywhere.

'tis good to know you are settling into a more comfortable mode of life. I don't know if B&D make anything comparable, but I have seen strimmers that can be fitted with a kind of circular saw-type thing to deal with underbrush. Goats might be less hazardous, but more, how shall I put it? aromatic? if you have males.

Goats are great, and if you accidentally anger the gods, you could always slaughter one of them to smooth things over.

I'd prefer it if you didn't though.
