Yes, we need a little romance. I love the sheep. They are such a nice breed. I was going to post teletubies. I love them. They are fun. It is important to be a child and have fun and wander with everything, not to be bored with routine.

I know Aberystwyth very well. We lived there for close to four years. It is so beautiful there.

I lived there for 5 years t-p! I loved it. 3 years for a music degree (the department's closed now  Cry ) then a year PGCE then one year on the dole not looking very hard for work, singing G&S etc. I go back to visit now and again as we sometimes stay in a bungalow in Ynyslas with friends for a week August. Here's an Ynyslas sunset taken a couple of years ago:

When were you living in Aber t-p?

Grin A reason to be happy!!! Grin  My little daughter, R, who's 10, has just won a silver cup like this:

for her singing in a local music festival yesterday. She had to sing at 9am - not easy! And she's only had lessons for 2 months and has never sung solo before. I am so proud of her! She sang Bessie the Black Cat (by Jenkyns) which won her that 1st prize then she came second with Over the Rainbow. And last week she won a medal for playing the piano too!!! Grin

I am so proud of your daughter. I could never sing because first I don't have a voice and second I was too shy. Somehow if you play it is less risky. It is not your voice but the instrument.
Congratulations MabelJane.
In Aberystwyth I played with Geraint Jones who plays cello. He was retired, but conducted chorus. I played Rachmaninov cello sonata with him. He is good, but he likes to conduct more. It is sad that they closed music department.

Congratulations MabelJane.
Thank you t-p. I'm shy but I loved singing on stage, mostly in the chorus but once as Mabel in the Theatr y Werin - that's me in the red and white frock (such a long time ago!):

I knew him quite well t-p. He played in the resident string quartet which gave weekly concerts in the Old Hall.

This is making me smile at the moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqBW_9OjhlA
I used to have fun singing it - not on stage I hasten to add!

MabelJane, I feel we are almost related now. We know the same people. I heard the quartet had to play often and had no time to rehearse.
They closed a few more department at the University there (Philosophy). I was sad about it. The small town is beautiful and everything is so nice. The only problem was : there was no work for people. But that is for another thread.
They had nice halls for different concerts and many pianos.
I am so impressed you could sing this difficult Mozart aria even if you did not sing publicly.

They may have been under-rehearsed but I enjoyed their performances - they played with great enthusiasm! I have a couple of treasured tapes of their concerts. The resident pianist (Richard Sim(m?) I think his name was) joined them for piano quintets which I loved. The second fiddle was my dear fiddle teacher Bill James who, sadly, died a few years ago. He was a lovely lovely man. I have very fond memories of him giving me lessons, always with pipe in hand! He led the G&S orchestra every year.

Ah but you didn't hear me! I could ping out the high Fs OK but I was very squeaky!

So happy to discover a shared love of Aber days!

Morning everyone.  Hope all is well and that everyone is bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!

Been enjoying the music since 7 a.m., but off out with the hound now.

Tell me what I've missed when I come back.... Grin

Bravo to 'little R' from me too! Well done her! And what a lucky girl growing up in a house full of music.

The Happy Room has worked its wonders again and I can new leave it chirpier than when I came in.

Picnic in the park?... what a lovely idea... with that lady friend I hope Lord B?
